Cannon is not the answer

It’ll be Thorpe.

Well there's a reason I listed him third. It's like in Inglourious Basterds... he speaks German third best.

On paper and at home...Cubs are the much better team.

But that doesn't matter if the manager...hitting with risp, bullpen, and bullpen overusage are slowly killing your team morale

Sox infield is better, their outfield is way better. They have a way better in-game manager.

Agreed, and maybe this week?

I think it's reasonably likely that somebody out of Urquidy, Thorpe, and Cannon can do well enough in the rotation. Just might take some pain to figure out which one it is.

I think Sandlin & Thorpe are our best hope for some rotation prosecution. Zero confidence in Cannon and very little in Urquidy but you never know.

Yeah, Venable has had a bad series, but if this teams fails to make postseason, it will be primarily due to Getz choking at the deadline.

We will be in the postseason. The scenario where we don't make it in would be ludicrous frankly.

If throws tomorrow then he’d line up Monday at home I think, which is probably what they want to do unless something goes terribly wrong with him.

TBH, I still don't have a good read on how Getz/braintrust feels about Thorpe. For all I know, they see him as an emergency option only.

I understand the Will criticism but do you ever sit there after a win and point out good Will decisions?

Yeah TBH, once Sandlin and Noah get out of the mandatory post-option timeout, I also think that one of those two is likely able to give you some good innings

Couldn’t disagree more, and it’s all based on schedule and pitching running out of gas.

Unless Sandlin found a way to get lefties out, he’s not an option IMO.

Just my opinion, you have to just give Urquidy the start tomorrow. That's what he's here for. Don't waste a trustworthy reliever in the first inning of a game that you don't even know will be worth using good relievers in. Urquidy is a starter, let him pitch. If he pitches badly, then that's useful information to use as you decide who deserves to be on the roster.

Worst case scenario is you lose the game tomorrow and you keep taxing your bullpen. The Sox needed to either blow the Cubs out or get blown out to reset the bullpen these past 2 days. Instead we did the opposite and the bullpen is still taxed with no off days in sight.

People forget how highly thought of Thorpe was. He had good results for a rookie before getting hurt. He was the double A pitcher of the year. He can pitch. He’s efficient too. He made the jump straight from double A and looked like he had real upside.

We did in Tigers series

PCA alone outproducing Antonacci Peters Grichuk Braden in fWAR, probably bWAR too.

Yeah man I just don't think they were getting an impact starter, much less two, at the deadline without completely mortgaging the farm. The best starter traded at the deadline was Soriano and he would've cost Bonemer.

Peters has a Juan Pierre arm apparently.

Peter, Pierre. Same difference.

The big question is will this series stunt our team’s efforts going forward. Baseball is such a mental game and the team has rebounded throughout the season but this is a dreadful series loss. It ain’t easy to pick up the pieces after a punch like this especially when the players now realize their manager is in way over his head and that their general manager has failed them. This pitching fiasco is of epic proportions that was self inflicted by Getz and Venable. This has the makings of an upcoming tail-spin. We will see.

We basically need to go .500 the rest of the way to win the division. If the pitching collapses, there's a chance we don't. One of the Twins, Tigers, and Guardians would need to play .660 baseball to catch up to us if we go .500. With the way those teams have been going, it's hard to see that happening.

Mahle was a guy that went for nothing and has been great for the Braves. I think they were expecting too much from Schultz or a returning guy.

They traded for and called him up a few years back despite his velocity being down a bit from where it was with the Yankees. It’s possible things have changed, but with Will talking about him recently I think he’s the guy they are banking on to claim one rotation spot. Let’s pray for a strong start tomorrow.

Don't tell that to any Sox fan who understandably got nervous at the end of 2005...after having what seemed an almost insurmountable double digit game lead.

Of course, completely different talent levels with those Indians/Sox WS teams.
