I love hockey but will not watch shootouts, if the game is still tied after the 5 minute overtime period I turn something else on or just go to bed.

I feel like adding tie’s to the MLB would just be a fucking slog.

I don’t think there is any good solution, playing the game until someone finally wins kills bullpens and can encourage stupid stuff like more position players pitching, ties suck and change the math on winning the division, and the Manfred man introduces a run/runner that is not on base because of offense lol.

Pitchers hand out?

How about a bunt off?

It sucks when your team blows their challenges and then the umps get really generous in the strike zone. It feels like there should be some sort of override if something is really egregious but I’m not sure how it would be implemented. I don’t think there would be a sky ump like in football who would auto change a call

Simple solution is full ABS. Another is to give teams one challenge an inning in the last 2 or 3 innings of a game, much like how you get one in extras. That way, you get to challenge in the high leverage innings even if you blow your 2 challenges early.

I’m just not ready for robot umps. Just removes an element of the game that is woven in.

So much has changed anyways, they might as well get all the calls correct. These guys throw too hard to expect umps to do a great job. As I said earlier, nearly 1000 missed calls in games last week is crazy.

Is it crazy? What is that number compared to the previous 2 years? It’s sounds big but how many opportunities were there? We have no idea what is normal

Have ABS give challenges to teams throughout the game, incrementally, based on the number of blown calls by the umps.

I’m gonna guess that’s on par for what normally happens, give or take 100. These aren’t judgment calls anymore with ABS technology. The technology exists where there would be no increase to how long the game lasts, so why not use it? The current system is really stupid, especially with the “2 second time limit” or last night’s flat out miss of a challenge.

Umps will still make the strike calls. It just takes their judgement away. I don't know why umps wouldn't want that. It takes so much pressure off them. And it's honestly not fair to expect humans to read if a pitch is 0.1 inches out of the zone.

Just like it’s not fair to make players read if a pitch is .1 inches off.

I just want to state for the record that I respect and admire our robot overlords and whole heartedly disagree with this disturbing take by Kyyle23.

Im not saying that you mentioned hockey, im pointing out how It’s a pretty close comparison, but thank you for informing me that its different sports I didn’t know.

Anyhow, in season, they do shootouts and games end in ties if not decided. Overtime rules change in playoffs to where they continue to play until it’s decided. Kind of like, I dunno, extra innings changing in baseball from Manfred man to a straight up play until it’s over. Except in your scenario you would prefer a tie in season instead of the Manfred man.

Good talk

SHOOT-OUTS? Hmmmmm... How about instead of extra innings, each team gets to select a batter and a pitcher (someone from the same team), and, with lobbed pitches, whichever batter hits the most homers out of ten pitches, their team wins?

I'm sorry.....I can't do that, Kyle.

Full platoon like football. Shorten the season back to 154 games and add a round of playoffs.

I'm 100% in agreement.

I'll be surprised if we continue to have human umpires in 20 years. The rise of eSports precision will force the change over time.

That's an interesting factor I hadn't really considered.
