Guardians out. Peralta post season record 3-0. 0.67 ERA. Sox get Castillo instead.

My brain (what's left of it) said I should probably root for the Guardians, but my heart still hates them too much, so I'm glad the Rays won. ........go brewers!

Would Peralta also saved our offense from striking out 3,746 times? There’s no defending the Castillo move. It was/is flat out bad. But let’s also be realistic, 1 player wasn’t making this team a leg

Huh? Is this sarcasm? The Sox literally choked the division lead away and finished 1 game behind the Guardians. The Sox were completely mediocre post-trade deadline and played to a 1 game below .500 record. One decent starter acquisition instead of Castillo could have easily been the difference in winning the division and beating them in the playoffs after a dominating 2-0 lead after 2 road games in a 5 game series. The Sox pretty much choked twice against the Guardians this year.

Yes, I did. Flew right over my head. Had the David Samson “2nd place is best” quotes in my head but not the White Flag trade. 🤣

Rays get Peralta, and he wins the deciding game against the Guardians, with a post season record of 3-0 and 0.67 ERA. Whereas the Sox got Castillo instead, with no wins and 8.64 ERA. IF Getz would have swung a trade for Peralta, Sox would be going to the World Series IMO. That is why I don’t support Getz for Executive of the Year.

Should have gotten both Peralta and Castillo, if they had convinced themselves that Luis was a must have. Always get more than you think you need when it comes to pitching.

Hopefully lesson is learned because it’s a painful lesson.

We should be going to the WS indeed.

The Mets finally found a package they liked for Freddy Peralta, moving him to Tampa Bay for three prospects most fans have likely never heard of. Indeed, none of these prospects ranked in the Rays’ top-10 per MLB pipeline.

What are you talking about? If Sam catches that fly ball with 2 outs in the 9th, Sox finish ahead of Cleveland.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/50222334/alcs-tampa-bay-rays-clinch-world-series-spot

Comprehensive Jeff Passan story on Rays’ success

The Rays' stability, in part, has come from their ability to complement their longtime employees with new faces to replace those who left the Tampa Bay machine and eventually took over other baseball operations departments: Andrew Friedman (Dodgers), Chaim Bloom (Boston and St. Louis), Peter Bendix (Miami), James Click (Houston), Taylor Smith (A's) and Matt Arnold, who runs the Brewers. The Rays' fingerprints are everywhere in baseball.

"Since I was drafted at 17, every coach that I've been with, the players they drafted, you could tell that everybody was just a straight-up A-plus human being," Walls said. "And if they weren't, they got out. You've got to be a good person to be in this organization. You gotta care about winning. Winning has to be your only priority. And if it's not, they sniff you out real quick and you're probably not here long.”

One of many PR disasters during Jerry's ownership.

The 1st post that started this thread is the ultimate example of being a Monday Morning Quaterback.

It’s always easy to make all the correct calls after the game is over.

This post is BS. GM’s get assessed on the players they acquire and if they perform or fail. It’s the way it is.

So therefore all GMs (staying in the Monday Quarterback metaphor)are supposed to make every read correctly, always throw to the correct receiver. Be 100% correct for the entire game, or else he was unsuccessful. He can be called out LATER by people who have WAITED and watched and rewatched the films from different angles; and therefore they are correct and the quarterback deserves that scorn on that Monday morning?

Getz made a ton of correct decisions, out of COUNTLESS possible decisions, that got the Sox into the playoffs. For people, way past the time of the decision, to look back and complain about one or two decisions is short-sighted and silly.

Getz scanned the field, he made the reads, he threw the passes. And this year he had A LOT more TD passes than interceptions.

Had Getz only make the right trade, they would be in the World Series, but they would only have gotten there by luck, and none of it would be because of anything they did.

I don’t think anyone ever said this, but it’s hard to argue that the Sox wouldn’t have won the division and passed the Guardians in the postseason with a better trade deadline starter acquisition than buster Castillo.

I'm sure it is Rick and Kenny's fault.

It’s funny when WE just makes up fantastical bullshit that the board supposedly said to try to defend his best GM ever.

Tampa is interesting in this context. They had the best team in the AL, yet right before the season they traded Tristan Peters to the Sox for a little cash. Peters would make the All-Star Game while CF is arguably Tampa's weakest position (nearly league-worst offense mitigated somewhat by excellent defense). But of course, nobody will be overhauling the crew in TB's front office.

Over in Boston, I don't know if anyone is ready to put Craig Breslow in the front office hall of fame. But I found his comments near the deadline interesting when he said (I'm paraphrasing a bit) that he's not trying to win trades, he's trying to win games. Basically, judge me for how the team plays rather than how many trades he wins and by how much. We all remember how great it was when Rick Hahn was winning the offseason.
