Those are my top 10 favorites who I've seen do stand-up (I couldn't pick 5). Lewis Black is definitely number 1, and David Cross is number 2, and other than that they're not really in order.

I forgot Dave Chappelle and Dana Carvey on my list. Damn, this is so hard. I think it's impossible to pick 5.

Nobody mentioned George Carlin yet? Shocking.

in no particular order:

Will Ferrell

Bill Murray

Jerry Seinfeld

Dave Chapelle

Carlin blows all those other scrubs away. I've seen every one of his shows (on HBO) since 1978 and they're all above ANY comedian in the last twenty years.

Nobody mentioned George Carlin yet? Shocking.

I've seen some of his older stuff and newer stuff on HBO and it's just not my thing.

Top 5, IN particular order:

Standup Comedians

5- Jerry Seinfeld

4- Robin Williams

3- Jamie Foxx

2- Dave Chapelle

1- George Carlin...no one really is close to Carlin IMO

Actor Comedians

5- John Candy (RIP)

4- Dick van Dyke (subtle physical humor)

3- Steve Martin (just watch The Jerk about 50 times)

2- Matthew Perry (This guy kills me)

1- Jim Carrey (Still my favorite, after all the years.)

People that have made me laugh uncontrollably in recent years:

Larry David

Dane Cook

Bob Odenkirk, David Cross and company on Mr. Show

Seth McFarlane (Not exactly standup comedy but funnier than alot of it)

Gilbert Gottfried (His standup was pretty bad but damn is his voice funny)

  • Author

Charlie Murphy (eddie murphy's bro) is on Chapelle show now.... he's a pretty funny guy. Eddie is to busy doing Daddy Day Care to be funny anymore.

Recent:

Bill Murray

Steven Colbert

Will Ferrel

Eddie Izzard

Jon Stewart

Amy Poehler

Jeoffrey Tambor

Laraine Newman

Chris Rock

Steve Martin (the writer)

All-time

Woody Allen

Peter Sellers

Groucho Marx

Billl Hicks

Phil Hartman

Ever since Carlin charged me 25 bucks to watch him hash out new material off a yellow legal pad ( very POORLY, I might add ), he's off my list.

My 5 favorites( not saying these guys are all-time classics, they just always make me laugh ):

Bill Hicks
