April 30, 200421 yr Hopefully this hasn't been posted but... I was listening to Dan Patrick on the radio and he was talking about how former White Sox 1B Jeff Liefer was locked in the bathroom for 15 minutes during a AAA game yesterday. Apparently they had to hold the game up looking for him before resuming play.
April 30, 200421 yr Poor guy. This would be a great time for a punchline, but I can't do it to Lief. Seems like too nice a guy.
April 30, 200421 yr Yeah he was on with Bernstien and Mulligan. LOL, he said when he finally came back onto the field, the guys from the other team threw toilet paper at him.
April 30, 200421 yr Who's orginization is he in? I believe its the Indianopolis Indians, which is a AAA team for Cincy? I think that seems right... That interview on the Score with Liefer was hilarious, he said that he had to knock out the hinges with a tool they passed through the air vent and knock the door down. Thats good stuff...

I know he has been with the Brewers organization, Devil Rays too. IIRC.
April 30, 200421 yr The Indianapolis Indians are the AAA team of the Milwaukee Brewers. That makes sense right? LOL Liefer is batting .322 so far this season. I remember when I saw him hit a bomb against the Sox this Spring Training. The Sox got killed thanks to Shingo and Koch, but that made my day. I really want him to do well.
April 30, 200421 yr All I know is that Liefer signed a minor league deal with the Brewers. So either his contract ran out or they cut him.
April 30, 200421 yr Ha good ol' Leifer. How'd he leave Montreal? Was he traded or cut? I believe they put him on waivers, Tampa claimed him, and then didn't offer him a contract this offseason, so he was let loose. Milwaukee then signed him.

Apparently they had to hold the game up looking for him before resuming play. Do you have Prince Albert in the can> Better let him out!!!!!! once when I was on internship I had my first and worst kidney stone attack in the church basement john between services - as I crouched bent over the can unable to move and thinking I was dying, I pictured them waitng for me to show up for the second service and of course I would never appear and they would find me dead on the tiolet, my vestments pulled up over my waist and my pants at my knees. That image so motivated me to not be remembered that way that I pulled it together enough to crawl upstairs and finish the 2nd service before I went to the hospital...
May 1, 200421 yr How come Liefer never made it? Comments? I do believe that he never got a chance to play fulltime, with the exception of 2001 of course. Played part time in 02, traded to Montreal in 03, and was done after that. He seemed like he could turn into a pretty solid player in his career. He just never figured it out. In fact, I believe he beat Konerko out for the 1B job in 1999, but got hurt, and Konerko got it, and quite simply never lost it.
May 1, 200421 yr How come Liefer never made it? Comments? Really I see a lot similarities between Russ Branyon and Jeff Leifer. I think if Jeff played everyday he would hit about .240 and hit 30 HRs. I don't think he would ever hit for much average, but a ton of power.

I don't think he would ever hit for much average, but a ton of power. Exactly. You could lop Richie Sexson into that category. The question is whether Liefer will remain Russell Branyon or become Richie Sexson (or at least close). On a side note I really see Joe Borchard becoming Branyon. Again he could become Sexson, but I don't see it.
May 1, 200421 yr Here's an article about Liefer's adventure from the Associated Press I found, The wait for the bathroom never was supposed to be this long. But that's what happened when former big leaguer Jeff Liefer got locked inside a dugout bathroom, forcing a 20-minute delay in Thursday night's triple-A game between the Indianapolis Indians and Louisville. "I went to the restroom, a perfectly normal thing to do during the game," Liefer said yesterday. "When I went to leave, the handle didn't want to work on the door, so I was stuck." Indians teammate Matt Erickson was waiting in line and heard the first baseman say he was trapped. The umpires agreed to delay the start of the fourth inning while maintenance workers at the Indianapolis ballpark opened a vent above the door and handed Liefer tools to unscrew the handle. When Liefer and the Indians ran back onto the field, a gift of toilet paper was waiting from the Louisville dugout. During the delay, fans at Victory Field were told something was going on. "They announced that an Indians player was being temporarily detained in the clubhouse, which can be interpreted a million different ways, I suppose," Liefer told WTHR-TV. "The place erupted when I came back out on the field," he said. "When I got back out there everybody knew what happened. Maybe it just kind of spread, I don't know." Liefer, 29, was a 1995 first-round pick by the Chicago White Sox and played in the majors for them from 1999-02. Last season, he split time between Montreal and Tampa Bay. "Maybe his California lifestyle had something to do with him getting locked in there, I don't know," former Montreal teammate Jamey Carroll said before the Expos' game against Los Angeles on Friday night. Said former Expos teammate Brian Schneider: "I mean, I might be embarrassed if that happened to me, but Lief's a great dude, and that's a good story right there."
