June 27, 200421 yr So, does this mean the Hall of Fame party will be in 2009? Or 2010? How does Cooperstown handle midseason retirements?
June 27, 200421 yr In minor league news, Micah Franklin now plays for the Sidewinders after being released from BHam earlier this year.
June 27, 200421 yr So, does this mean the Hall of Fame party will be in 2009? Or 2010? How does Cooperstown handle midseason retirements? I'm not positive, but I think it'll be in 2010.
June 27, 200421 yr Parque helped get us to the playoffs in 2000. All the best to him, Sirotka, Baldwin and Eldred, four guys who blew their arms out for that team.
June 27, 200421 yr It's easy to criticize Butter, and I have done so in the past, and I'm sure that he was a good competitor and a good teammate and all that s***, and his agent out negotiated the White Sox in his last contract with us, but all I can remember is how Cameron and Glaus just tattoed him, and every time he threw a gopher ball, he would get down in that stupid crouch and watch the ball go over the fence.
June 27, 200421 yr Is the retirement immediate, or will Butter take a "farewell tour" through the entire Northern Independent League? Never liked Parque, so no tears shed for him here.
June 27, 200421 yr Good. The bastard didn't sign for me when he still had his bentley. Now he's going to be driving a 1993 Honda acura.
June 27, 200421 yr I know we all make fun of, Parque. BUT, i'll always be greatful for his role in us winning the 2000 division title. Baldwin and Eldred got hurt. Leaving us depleted pitching wise. But Parque steps up and gets us countless big wins and gets us to the playoffs.
June 27, 200421 yr Do you know how cool it would be to have your last name as "Parque", pronounced like "Parkay" the butter? I know I'm not the only one who has ever thought of this.

June 27, 200421 yr The 2000 Chicago White Sox is my favorite Sox team of all time. Thanks for the memories Parque.
June 27, 200421 yr Parque was simply great in 2000 and it was downhill from there... Best of luck to him and thanks for his great work in 2000 for the Sox.
June 27, 200421 yr Parque helped get us to the playoffs in 2000. All the best to him, Sirotak, Baldwin and Eldred, four guys who blew their arms out for that team. Much love to Parque and those others! And it's Sirotka.
June 27, 200421 yr The 2000 Chicago White Sox is my favorite Sox team of all time. Thanks for the memories Parque. I think Parque got the most out of his talent he possibly could, and there's a lot to be said for that. I remember the bad years too, and yeah they sucked. But I also remember that he was a guy who protected his teammates. He was our starter in the Detroit brawl game. IIRC, the nastiness started with Carlos Lee getting involved in a hard slide at third, and then Jeff the puke Weaver hitting CLee later on. I was at the game and said, this could be interesting next inning, and sure enough, first pitch Parque retaliates. Then the hockey game broke out. Good luck to Parque.
June 27, 200421 yr Jim Parque gave his heart, soul and left arm for this team. Anyone that criticizes him at this point just doesn't appreciate a hard-nosed competitor. And to not like someone because they didn't sign an autograph for you is just childish. Maybe if you would have walked up and offered to shake his hand and ask "How are you?" instead of thinking "me me me me" all the damn time, he might have had a different attitude. These players are people, too. Good luck to Jim Parque. I think he'd make a damn good pitching coach down the line. He knew how to pitch with limited natural talent. Thanks for your guts and class, Jim.
June 27, 200421 yr Yeah what ever happened to mike sirotka of that team....does he still play?? He was traded to Toronto for Wells following that season, then it came out that his arm was messed up and he's never been heard from since. He was awesome for us that year and I feel bad that he hasn't been able to play since then.

He was awesome for us that year and I feel bad that he hasn't been able to play since then. He had some stints with some minor league clubs, and was most recently with the Chicago Cubs.
June 27, 200421 yr I don't remember Parque having much class. I remember him whining about "not wanting to eat PB&J sandwiches" in the minors. I remember him saying dumb s*** in his short-lived newspaper column. I remember him getting lit up BAD at the end. I just don't have any fond memories of Jim Parque at all. NOT saying everyone has to think that way, just passing along my own memories of Parque, and why I don't miss him at all.

June 27, 200421 yr It's the role players that make such a huge impact on teams. Like Cal Eldred. That guy was straight guts going out there with a screw in his arm & still doing fairly well.
