October 2, 200421 yr I love it when the cubs are playing for pride I haven't followed them much, besides Sosa being Soso, who else is to blame?
October 2, 200421 yr I haven't followed them much, besides Sosa being Soso, who else is to blame? Dusty Baker. Let's put it this way: When Baker put in Remlinger in the 8th when the Braves took the lead I said to my dad, "Uh oh, Dusty Baker is making a pitching change. He must be wrong." First batter JD Drew hits a 2 run double and goes on to score, 8-6 Braves. Lack of a closer- Borowski sucks and Hawkins can't save a game for his life. Lack of consistent hitting- They have a lot of power guys like the White Sox, but nobody on base to keep a consistent lineup. As us White Sox fans have found out the hard way, power hitters go through hot and cold slumps. The Cubs' offense hit a cold slump at the end of the season. Obviously, I would be foolish not to mention the early injuries in the season. However, the same can be said for the Astros.
October 2, 200421 yr Thank you. I followed the Astros almost by default. It's the most "local" of teams by me.
October 2, 200421 yr Obviously, I would be foolish not to mention the early injuries in the season. However, the same can be said for the Astros. This is a good point. The Astros have been without Pettitte and Miller for a while lately, while the Cubs have been healthy, with the exception of Nomar and Ramirez's groin strains. Fact is, they CHOKED away the WC by losing a slew of one-run HOME games to "inferior" teams over the last week. Simply amazing how poorly they play the game.
October 2, 200421 yr LMAO, OMG, What happened? I turned the game off when they went up 6-2. I turn to espn news to see at the bottom "Cubs elminated from post-season." I f***IN LOVE IT

October 2, 200421 yr Don't forget about the Angels. Also a good example of a team overcoming adversity. INSTEAD of using it as a crutch. Which is what the Cubs do best.
October 2, 200421 yr When looking back on this last week, it's truly amazing when you observe the circumstances which led to their collapse. IMO, this years fall tops last years monumental Game 6/7 choke. The Choke Factor: - 5 straight losses. All of which have been at home. - 2 consecutive 12 inning losses - LeTroy Hawkins blows two straight saves with 2 outs and 2 strikes on hitters. - Dusty Baker. Has he made one successful bullpen move this last week? - Offense: Shut down by the dismal (Cheat has posted stats which prove their ineptness) Cincinatti pitching. Corey Patterson and Derick Lee have been horrid in September There's likely more factors leading into the collapse. Feel free to add on any I may have missed. IT'S FUN!
October 2, 200421 yr Gotta love it...crying Cubs fans! That's what happens when you make playoff tickets so damn early.

You pretty much summed it all up. I'm the biggest Cubs hater there is. But I thought they would atleast get to the playoffs and then choke. But good god. LMAO, this really is better than last year
October 3, 200421 yr Can you get the pic of the guy and his kid smiling as the cubs were entering the end of the game and they were down by 2. That was a funnier pic.
October 3, 200421 yr I know it's sad....pathetic even...but watching the Cubs collapse this week has been such a blast. Now THAT was must see TV. :fthecubs
October 3, 200421 yr just a note that ive been merging most cubs threads into this one to keep it compact; we wouldnt want visitors to get the wrong idea about our "love" of the cubs

LMAO, this really is better than last year Hey Jordan, didn't someone guarantee that the cubs were going to win the world series??
