Are the Tigers richer than the Sox?

Featured Replies

metro detroit has about 5.5 million people. if the tigers get rolling they could become the dominant team in the AL Central.

also, i'm pretty sure the owner's also the owner of the red wings. since he doesn't need to pour anything into his normal cash cow, he can spend it on reviving the tigers.

Here we go again...

It's more like...he's the owner of Domino's Pizza, so he should be able to put more money into it.

Haha, I know what you're thinking.

Haha, I know what you're thinking.

i don't.

it was just off-the-top-of-my-head speculation about why they're buying so many players all of a sudden the last two years. could be that a coupla their ridiculous contracts expired and freed up money too i dunno. could be that domino's breadsticks went thru the roof. the hell do i know? just making conversation. maybe the topic blew up before and i missed it or something; my bad.

No bad on your part. Someone else suggested previously that he use the Wings $$ to pay Tiger's salaries.. which isn't allowed.

Two things.

1. The owner of the Tigers/Red Wings also owns Little Ceasers, not Dominos.

2. The topic was brought up before, because thought he was taking money out of the hockey team and putting it into baseball. You can't do that..

Point is that Ilitch has lots of money and with the ASG coming to town, he's spending it knowing he'll make it back.

Its not who is richer, its who isn't spending money. Thats exactly what that bastard JR won't do, spend money to win.

sorry, my bad. :chair

Maybe if the NBA got locked out again, Reinsdorf would spend his Bulls $$ on the Sox. :drink

the "owner" of Detroit is, I believe, the second richest baseball owner next to the Twins guy.

not sure if that makes the Tigers richer though...

Why does there have to be a lock-out not like he is paying anyone on the Bulls!

They're paying E-Rob $10 million to NOT play on the Bulls. The NBA also has a salary floor.

yep here we go. Unreal

seattle mariners are owned by the owner of Nintendo and several Microsoft multimillionaires. They run the team like a business. They are business men like JR and the Detriot guy. Detriot has not spent alot of money the past three seasons. They were rebuilding forming a team in which they can just add some pieces. Now they are doing that. Its a classic approach to how to re-build a team with a core of farm players. Its something we will be trying one day.

Carl pohlad? If that is the case he is one of the greediest bastards ever.

Pohlad is the owner of the Twins as you know, Mike Ilitch is the owner of the Tigers-Wings.

I knew that, just hard to believe pohlad is the richest and is a greedy bastard. Eh i guess it is just a business though. ;)

I know Mario is good with this sort of thing, but I find it hard to believe Pohlad has more money then Big Stein.

Well i do know he is worth 2.1 billion.

Edit: As of last year he is worth 2.1 and worth 2.2 billion in 2004. George steinbrenner is not on the least from what i can see.

Our payroll will still be higher than Detroits next year. They're full of minimum contracts and can afford a few bad contracts.
