December 18, 200421 yr Borchard Confident About 2005 "Basically, I didn't do a good job of taking advantage of a golden opportunity," Understatement of the year!
December 18, 200421 yr More Prior to the start of Spring Training, Borchard is scheduled for a weeklong trip to Chicago. Borchard plans to make a few hospital visits, something he has been doing during the entire offseason, and then finish things off with a trip to SoxFest. Borchard laughed when asked what sort of fan reception he expects when announced on the event's first night. The detractors became fairly vocal near the end of 2004. But Borchard is ready for whatever input the fans provide. He hasn't given up on himself, and he hopes the fans won't either. "If nothing else, I hope they can understand I am sure as heck going out and giving it all I can every day," Borchard said. "Things just didn't go too well. Things will be better. "Have patience with me, understanding that I'm about as impatient with myself as anyone can be. I'm excited to get out there and play, knowing that better performances will come along."
December 18, 200421 yr So Borchard's going to visit a few hospitals? Why, to get a batting eye implant??? I'd be more confident about 2005 if "Mr. 1 Bomb/10 K's" is planted in Charlotte.
December 18, 200421 yr How hard do you have to try to be successful in the mexican league. Gload owned that league.
December 18, 200421 yr If I was Borchard and his agent I would be calling the Cowboys to see if they're interested in another former college quarterback turned failed minor leaguer
December 18, 200421 yr I honestly feel sorry for the guy. He seems like a very nice person but he just has no future in baseball. I guess he just picked the wrong sport. Hopefully he invested that money wisely...
December 18, 200421 yr Yeah, but he'll kick around for a few years earning good money, just look at Russell Braynon (sp?) as an example
December 18, 200421 yr I really don't know why he's still around here. I think he's basically trade bait anymore, but who'd really bite on that kind of bait?
December 18, 200421 yr The fact that we signed Dye and traded for Pod when we had an outfield spot open is a vote of no-confidence for Borchard. Whatever confidence he had left should be gone now. If you would have told me we would let Mags walk a few years ago, I would have bet it was because we had Borchard. Now we are signing Timo Perez in his should-be roster spot.
December 18, 200421 yr If we were counting on Borchard, Timo would not be on the roster right now. Escobar will be ahead of him. Hell, I'll take Mario Valenzuela before him.
December 18, 200421 yr What should the Sox do with Borchard? They can't get much for him, if anything. Should the just release him or let him sit in AAA?

December 18, 200421 yr Let him sit in AAA, there's still always the miracle possibility that the light turns on and he is productive... .....then trade his ass like they shoulda last May when he got hot down there.
December 18, 200421 yr Calling Joe B a piece of garbage and other bad things is too harsh. He does have a lot of potential and remember we all cry when KW trades away our prospects. Let's give the guy a chance. It ain't hurting anything to do that and maybe we will get a surprise.

December 18, 200421 yr Well thank god, i just bought my World Series tickets for the Right Field bleachers. And people get mad when we trade our good prospects. You know, the number 1 type.
December 18, 200421 yr i think he can end up being a 5th outfielder sometime mebe.... and hey keep him around id say he can still turn out possibly.. Late Bloomer
December 18, 200421 yr he is a piece of garbage. I take offense to that statement in particular, especially due to my relationship with Joe. He's done an audio interview for Soxtalk, which took time out of his pre-game routine. And when I asked Joe if it would be a problem, he of course said it wouldn't be and answered every question I threw at him. He surely didn't have to do this, but for Joe, this was something he was happy to do because he knew it was important to me and to many of you at Soxtalk. Everytime I've shown up at the ballpark here in Louisville, Joe has gone out of his way to take a few minutes of his time to chat with me and I am very appreciative of that fact. He's even gone as far as to ask how my schooling was going and how my father was. I can't say that about any other professional athlete I've ever dealt with. Call the guy a bust, a waste of Sox money, but a piece of garbage is something that Joe Borchard is NOT. He is a class act both on and off the field and has gone out of his way to make himself accessible and has always been eager to speak with me. For that, I admire the guy. And for your comment, you should be ashamed. In the future, maybe you should think long and hard before posting a comment that is totally off base and highly offensive to some of us here at the site.

As much as I dislike Borch's play, he's a nice as hell guy. I was involved in this one thing during the BoSox series last year where you run out to a position and the player that plays there signs you an autograph, etc. So I was out in RF, and Borch was playing right that night. He was an awesome guy, really really friendly. Now if only he could start hitting.
December 18, 200421 yr from what i heard he works as hard as rowand does if not more... really all you can expect these guys is try there best and do whatevr they can do to be a good player... borchard has done that but it hasnt worked out so as frustrating it is since we paid him a good sum of money and all i respect him as a person and a player
