March 1, 200521 yr Quick summary here; Former first-round draft pick Josh Fields had one of the five hits against Hernandez, a long two-run home run. "We have a good scouting report on (Fields)," Guillen said. "He still needs work at third base. He's still a kid. He needs to play some baseball games, but I'm really impressed by the way he swings the bat." Joe Borchard and Ryan Sweeney hit solo homers, while Jon Garland pitched three scoreless innings.

That's a wierd statement from Harris. What did he mean?
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) That's a wierd statement from Harris. What did he mean? Sounds like he is still scared to steal to me.
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Sounds like he is still scared to steal to me. sounds like he is still dumb as rocks to me
March 1, 200521 yr Glad to see Joe Borchard to good, but Orlando Hernandez is starting to worry me, I hope he plays gets off to a good this regular season.
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) WOW, Ozzie calling a player a kid.. This is a shocker. He probably calls El Duque a kid!
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) Did I hear A.J. say that the Sox 'have 5 above average pitchers' ?? did he mean in the rotation, on the entire staff, or in the whole organization?
March 1, 200521 yr its nice to see fields and sweeney do something off a vet who knows how to pitch like el duque
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) did he mean in the rotation, on the entire staff, or in the whole organization? In their history
March 1, 200521 yr I saw clips of the intrasquad games from CSN and newscast. Fox showed Young crashed into Aceves at the plate. Saw Fields hit a HR too. Borchard said he felt pretty good, i'm still hoping for him to do good.
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Sounds like he is still scared to steal to me. sounds like it, but.... Leading off the second inning of Monday's second White Sox intrasquad game at Tucson Electric Park, Willie Harris dropped down a perfect bunt for a base hit. He immediately swiped second base and moved to third on a fly ball to Joe Borchard in right.

Defensively, Aceves also survived a collision at the plate with Jerry Owens, stopping short the would-be run in the fourth inning.

I've never been really happy about us getting El Duque but isn't he notoriously bad at pitching to his own teammates? Excuse me if I'm wrong but I thought I saw that written somewhere.
March 1, 200521 yr Don't give a any thought to a pitcher being ineffective in Arizona ... especialyy a pitcher that has never experienced ST there before. Hernandez is a veteran and knows what the hell he's doing. It don't mean a damn thing until April.
March 2, 200521 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) Did I hear A.J. say that the Sox 'have 5 above average pitchers' ?? They do. Why is that so hard to believe?
March 2, 200521 yr QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) They do. Why is that so hard to believe? Methinks AJP is referring to the rotation. As of right now, Contreras is not above average, and Garland is about right at average.

Contreras' stuff is unquestionably above average, though... Garland... well, some here talk about his great stuff. If he ever finds real command of his curveball then yeah he's above average. Right now though, he's just "even steven".
