July 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) The general feeling is that they (the Rays) aren't going to be around in the next few years.. Both the Rays and the Marlins will have new homes within the next 5 years.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Book it....i'm convinced the Sox are going to acquire Huff and Baez. And why is this....just a hunch?
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) And why is this....just a hunch? I got a feeling. Remember though, I had that same feeling about RJ. Brian Anderson will be a Dray by the end of the trade deadline. Can't figure out who else will be gone. Willie will also likely be a part of the deal. Then there will be 2 more big names in it (maybe one a prospect and the other a reliever like Marte or Viz).

July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) Am I the only one who thinks that Baez isn't much of an upgrade from Marte? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope. It has only been a couple of years since Cleveland non-tendered him.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) Nope. It has only been a couple of years since Cleveland non-tendered him. Ortiz was non tendered a few years back too.
July 30, 200520 yr The feeling I'm getting is that the DRays are asking for a TON for Huff and Baez. Look at the 4 players that were rumored to be going there in the Manny deal? Those are 4 of the higher rated prospects in baseball. That would be like the Sox giving up McCarthy, Anderson, Young, and Gio. I have a feeling this was the trade proposal that KW mentioned in today's paper where it makes him shed a tear at how insane it is.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Does anyone else worry that two Devil Rays are not the answer? They Devil Rays have great talent on that team, just none as far as pitching goes. Their hitters are really good. That's why I hope they'll flip Baez for something else if they somehow get him and Huff.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Does anyone else worry that two Devil Rays are not the answer? Huff is a better hitter than anyone on our team. However, Baez isn't someone I'd trust.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Does anyone else worry that two Devil Rays are not the answer? Yes, I agree whole-heartedly with this.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) The feeling I'm getting is that the DRays are asking for a TON for Huff and Baez. I have a feeling this was the trade proposal that KW mentioned in today's paper where it makes him shed a tear at how insane it is. Right, that's why the smart play is to look at Huff from Tampa and Everyday Eddie from seattle, cause it seems the asking price for Eddie is less then the asking price for Baez when Eddie is obviously the better pitcher.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Huff is a better hitter than anyone on our team. However, Baez isn't someone I'd trust. No friggin way is Huff a better hitter than anyone on our team. No friggin way. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Huff has suffered a drop in numbers this year? The year following the off-season steroid shakedown? I don't know. I would be very interested in his contract status though. This is the kind of move you would tend to see in the off-season because if we have Huff under contract for another year or so, that allows Kenny to let Konerko walk guilt-free. I couldn't care less about Baez. *Someone please post Huff's contract status
July 30, 200520 yr Huff would definitely be the best hitter on our team at this point. He's starting to get hot like he does every 2nd half of every season, his numbers keep rising and rising. Huff's a great, great hitter.
July 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Huff: 3-Year worth 14.5M 2.5M in 2004 4.75M in 2005 7.5M in 2006 Thanks bud! So, you're looking at Huff at 1B in 2006 if acquired. Ok, now I'm starting to warm up to the idea. If Huff can contribute in this year's push to the WS and then remain on the roster in 2006 as the starting 1B, letting Konerko and his projected absurd contract demands walk, I'll be alright with this. But, let's not kid ourselves here with Baez. He may be a pleasant addition the pen, but he won't add any credibility or deepen the pen depth chart if Marte is included in the deal.

That's why I hope we'd turn around and trade him for something else.
