ok thanks Yas!  That's kinda what I thought....

It is a huge risk for a team to take cause they most likely will be taking on his WHOLE contract.

Which is a gamble the Sox would not have to take, since they will have the LAST claim opportunity on him ... However, if the Sox fail to place the claim, he could be traded to any team.

So the chances of getting him are what? 1%?

Slim and none.

Slim just left town.

Im still kinda confused.  So Boston can claim him and then if a trade doesn't get worked out...they can say forget it and then nobody gets him???  or is it if a trade doesn't get worked out either way Boston gets griffey and has to take on his whole contract?

If Boston claims him, they can work out a trade with the Reds. If they cannot agree to a trade, and the Reds choose they can pay the waiver fee which is $100,000 or whatever it is, and just take Griffey.

If neither of the above we're to happen then it's dead. He's stuck in Cin, till the end of the season.

Yeah I mean the best hitter in the franchise's history just got hurt, why would KW try to replace him with one of the greatest powerhitters in our generation... :headshake

KW said the same thing I always say.. Thomas is out.. f*** it dude lets go bowling.

I'd be willing to bet Griffey already has or soon will pass through waivers.

Do you think another team would block it before it reached the White Sox, or do you think it wont go down for another reason.

I was in utter disbelief that Larry Walker ended up on the Cardinals last year, Im wondering if a similar situation could arise.

How is it known that a player is placed on waivers? Is there a formal letter sent to team offices around the league? is it a wire that the public can access?

Another team could block it. The Reds owner could quash it again. Who knows?

Here is the article

The White Sox, whose deal for Ken Griffey Jr. (for three minor league prospects) was killed by Reds owner Carl Lindner last weekend, would revisit their trade talks if Griffey clears waivers in August. ...

The Padres plan to trade third baseman Sean Burroughs to the White Sox this week for Triple-A outfielder Joe Borchard. ...

The White Sox believe that Frank Thomas' ankle injury will require further surgery that will end his career. ..

Agreed. I know we're using boston as an example earlier in this thread, but they're not the team we'd have to worry about claiming him.

The only two teams I can see putting a claim on Griffey is Us and NY.

I saw on USA Today.com that the Yanks declined Bernie William's option for 2006.

I don't think anyone in the NL would do it.

Boston or NY in the AL could. That contract is going to scare people off. Had they traded Manny, I could see it, but not right now.

See with Walker, he only had to go through the NL, not many teams had a chance to grab him.

No.

Wire made available to all teams.

Waivers is a 2 day process or a 3 day process?

You think the Cards might take a chance on Griffey? They need another OF and Walker is probably going to retire after the year. <_<

I agree.

Boston doesn't have room for him on the field right now, nor do they lux tax wise. They've made it clear that they don't want much to do with that.

Yanks would have first crack at him due to their record being worse than Boston, they can afford him, but I don't know what they could offer in the way of a trade.

Weren't the Cards the best team in the NL? They would have been the last team in that league to make a move.

Steve Phillips was saying during the Sunday Night game, that's it's only done during the week, no Saturday or Sunday's. I'm not sure why that is.

Maybe due to the league office.

Is Orlando Cabrera available?

damn, beat me to it. Anthrax always has some sweet transaction ideas......... :bang

Yes, but since Walker was playing for Col, he only had to get through the NL. The AL wasn't a factor.

He had a no trade clause as well, so my guess would be his contract and that stopped some rivals from trying to get him. It's a weird thing.

After reading just the first post, I have this to say:

FUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn it, that was such a sweet ass deal. Rogowski is fringe and Young is gonna be good, but damn. DAMN DAMN DAMN!

(And I don't want Burroughs)

They might try, but no way he ends up there.

Reds would pull him, not gonna let him go to a divison rival. The Cards aren't cheap, but I can't see them taking that contract.

yanks arent going to go after him, i think their lineup is already pretty packed and there arent many open spots on their roster to put him, im not even sure where we would put him quite frankly, i like carl and id hate to bench him
