Game 1- Contreras (7-2 with a 3.34 era since the break)

 

Game 2- Buerhle ( 5-4 with a 4.15 era since the break)

 

Game 3- Garcia ( 4-5 with a 4.13 era since the break)

 

Game 4- Garland (4-5 with a 3.73 era since the break)

I'd start McCarthy. I know he has barely reached the minimum of pitching in the regular season, but its a good risk involved if you win, pushing Buehrle back a day with Garcia and then Hernandez starting if needed.

I'm sorry...but taking a kid who has pitched basically 3 good games in his entire big league career and suddenly deciding he can handle game 1 of the playoffs type-pressure just strikes me as an amazingly large risk.

I'm kind of surprised the vote is this close. I go with Buehrle. He's been the man on this team for a number of years now and his season thus far has been great. He's our best pitcher and he deserves it.

I have to go with Buehrle at this point in time. But, if he doesn't come out of his funk, I'd have to look elsewhere as the time approached. I believe Mark will be ok though.

Damn right. I don't know how you start Buehrle who's been sucked in big games or against good teams. Contreras looks the best and if he continues, he should start Game 1.

1 more thing to think about in this poll...your game 1 starter is also almost certainly your game 5 starter, if it comes to that. So don't just think about who you want pitching game 1, think about who you want pitching game 5 at home with the series knotted up 2-2.

Anyone want to wager a large sum of money that Count doesn't start game 1?
