I don't want to hear it

Featured Replies

No more excuses, I don't want to hear we suck. I'm tired of all the negativity. I haven't watched the sox #1 all year go down when were this f***ing close.

From here on out we need to focus on minnesota and detroit and hopefully contain a firm lead over cleveland.

:gosox4:

We do not suck. But have you ever thought maybe the sox suck?

My feeling: the White Sox don't suck, but the Indians are a superior team. Add to that fact that the Yankees are playing great baseball, and we're going to need the Yanks or Red Sox to lose about 4 games the rest of the way to have a great chance at the playoffs. Our realistic magic number for the playoffs is 7 right now (adding in the fact the Yanks and Red Sox play 3 at the end).

I think he was referring to the Sox as sucking anyway. you see, fans refer to their teams as "we." although some people here seem to be distancing themselves from the Sox.

I know I suck. I suck for actually believing this team was legit. I'm not even sure if this is a top 8 team in the american league.

yeah, sounds about how the math is working in my head as well, IMO splits with each, so that's 4, Red Sox pitching is struggling right now, but do you know what Yankees and Red Sox schedules are?

Boston lost tonight, so our magic number over the number 2 WC team went down to 8.

I still say, when we win the division, there is no jumping back on the wagon when you LEAP off it.

I've been saying that they'd probably win the division, but get pissed on in the playoffs. Letting that lead slip away is still collapsing, especially if they blow in the playoffs, too.

I'm content with this season if they make the playoffs. This team has proven to me they're a solid collection of players, but they're nowhere near the talent level of some other teams.

Who has jumped off so far?

And do you have a stick or some sort of blunt object to prevent people from jumping back on this wagon?

It's really down to 6 and root for the Yankees.

Boston and NY play at the end of the season, so there are 3 [guaranteed] losses to be distributed between the two of them. NY can win 99 games if they win all of their remaing games, and Boston can win 98, but they can't do that at the Same time.

Here are the most wins they can finish with.

Series Most possible Wins

Result

Boston NYY

NY Sweep 95 99

NY wins 96 98

Bos Wins 97 97

Bos Sweep 98 96

If the Sox win 6 games, they will have 97 and guarantee at least a 3-way playoff.

They take care of business against Minnesota (who just shut down Radke) and Detroit (who just shut down Bonderman) and they will have a spot locked up before they go to Cleveland.

Is that fathom because you simply want to avoid the Sox being the team to blow the biggest division lead in history?

If we somehow limp into the playoffs I still want us to win in the playoffs.

I want us to find that pitching magic and have fred, mark and jon dominate and lead us to our world series (I know, the odds of me winning the lottery are probly better).

Of course I want the Sox to win the whole f***ing thing. However, judging by the way they've been playing in contrast to other playoff teams, I don't think it's a very likely option. We're like those Stanford and St. Joe's college basketball teams in the past. Those teams had the best record all season, yet by the end of the regular season, it was obvious that they had been passed by other teams in comparision to how they were playing on the field/court.

The worst case scenario is missing out on the playoffs. Getting embarrassed and swept in the playoffs is 1000 times better.

the sky is falling, the world is going to end. there are hurricanes all over, the wars in holy cities in the east are being faught, we lost tonight. the world is going to end.

If a spot is locked up BEFORE Cleveland, then only 1 win will be needed at the Jake.

The one promising thing is that I don't think we'll have to worry about the Yanks or Red Sox laying down for each other in the last 3 games, no matter how close they are in the standings.

Need to pick up a game on the tribe before we play them at the end. That's it. Even though it's hard to imagine, the pressure's still on them to keep winning.

As for the Twins, maybe it's just me, but I sure hope the Sox have a bad case of amnesia about tonight's game and move on. They can't afford any carry over this weekend. The Twins are licking their chops and we OWE those f***ers in a big, big way for some recent Septembers.
