October 2, 200520 yr In order for the White Sox to beat the Red Sox in the ALDS, _______ must happen. Fill in the blank... My vote goes to Podsednik getting on base. If Podsednik gets on base, the White Sox win this series. None of this, the pitching has to dominate or the offense needs to click. 1 single thing. Pick...
October 2, 200520 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Pitch around Big Papi. probably the best answer for that question.
October 2, 200520 yr Manny was garbag ein the 03 alds so it is possible. My number on thing: Average starter length: must exceed 6. If we are going we could be in trouble. I think we will do ok in this respect
October 2, 200520 yr There's 2 interesting battles: Sox pitching vs. Red Sox hitting Sox hitting vs. Red Sox pitching Both are pretty even matchups imo. I'll say the #1 key is White Sox pitching must keep the Red Sox off base as much as possible.
October 2, 200520 yr Keep damage to a minimal. Ortiz and Ramirez are going to hit us especially at the Cell. Therefore, keep guys off base and pitch around them when you have the chance. Also, the key is not for Pods to get on base, but for Pods to stay on base. Sucessful steals and breaking up double plays and actually running hard needs to be done.
October 2, 200520 yr #1 Pitching #2 Score first #3 Work the count -- We need to get into the Boston Pen
October 2, 200520 yr Manny carried Boston down the stretch. Must keep him & Ortiz from lauching rockets at the the Cell.
October 2, 200520 yr 1) keep damon and renteria off the basepaths. if you can do that, manny and ortiz won't seem as scary
October 3, 200520 yr OZZIE’S MANAGERIAL SCREWUPS. Sorry that I wrote that in caps. There is no doubt in my mind that Guillen will still use 3 different guys in one inning if he feels like doing so. That will just increase the risk of having no one to go to if a game goes to extra innings. Marte can’t get lefties or righties out. He has small flashes of excellence, but all of a sudden the wheels fall off and then someone like Politte has to come in and mop up his f***-ups. A man like Neal Cotts, whose been awesome against righties and lefties all year, can go out there and give you a quick 1-2-3 inning whether facing right-handers or left-handers.
October 3, 200520 yr I have a feeling that Ozzie will bring in Damaso just to face Ortiz and get burned badly by it.
October 3, 200520 yr Same as every game: Starting pitching must dominate; defense must be good; four runs must be enough.
October 3, 200520 yr My #1 key is DO NOT let Ortiz beat you in the late innings, I don't care if that means walking him to get to Manny.
October 3, 200520 yr We've gotta keep Damon under wraps. You can talk about Papi and Ramirez all you want, Damon is their motor. And, I believe game one is crucial. Not for the Red Sox, we know they can come back from anything, but for the White Sox. We haven't won a home playoff game since 59. We need to get that monkey off our back ASAP.
October 3, 200520 yr QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Manny carried Boston down the stretch. Must keep him & Ortiz from lauching rockets at the the Cell. Solo shots don't hurt as much. That's why I believe controlling Damon is the key.
