I wouldn't call it a bad idea but I would rather have Konerko than Matsui.

How about the fact that Anderson is a rookie and Konerko to Matsui loses us about 15 homers and 20 RBI in our lineup? Granted there are worse moves, but that looks like quite a dropoff to me. Putting Anderson in RF is not the way to upgrade our offense. I'd be very surprised if he hit over .260, and his runs and RBI's would probably be less than spectacular.

It's kind of a sad state when some of you are trying to find a way to keep a decent offense if the White Sox choose not to pay Paul Konerko....Are the White Sox going to act like a small market club after this playoff run ?

Pauly .283/40/100

Matsui .305/23/116

Giambi had some DH homeruns which I think that's what they're going for, but I don't know why Dunn isn't in it.

Mainly because Casey plays 1B the majority of the time and Dunn is out in LF/RF.

I said in our lineup genius. You think having Jeter, A-Rod, Giambi, and Sheffield ahead of him might have had a slight impact on his RBI total? Maggs was a much better hitter than Matsui is and he was right around 115 most years even in our stronger offense.

Anderson wouldnt bat 7th for us, and is Matsui even going to be available? I doubt the Yankees would let him go if they had a choice.

I'm still against Dye playing first for us btw

Yeah there you go, I forgot about Sean Casey.

OOO Sorry I forgot you have the crystal ball that can see the furture with him in our lineup. Going on past numbers (which you have to) Matsui has avg 100 rbi each year he has been in baseball. We have no idea what he would be able to do in this lineup till he gets here.

So having 2 "power" hitters in front of him who are RBI guys as well helped Matsui..

Look at each of their OBP's. That's why Matsui has more RBI's.

If Pauly had 182 ABs w/ RISP he'd have approximately 136 RBI.

Regarding Dye playing 1B, I think he'd capable of being solid defensively. I wouldn't carve in stone that he'll repeat his 31 HR season next year, though. We'd have to pick up some power somewhere.

I'd love to add Matsui to this team, but not at the cost of Konerko. Matsui is a FA, but I would guess that the Yanks try and resign him. However, they may just take a different approach next year since they were unsuccessful (in King George's eyes) again. I fully expect Torre to be fired by 1 pm central time today.

If there is any chance at all of getting Matsui, they should have Iguchi give him a call. Of course, one of Pods, Rowand, Dye or anderson would probably have to be moved in a trade.

Matsui's been the Yankees best clutch hitter in the middle of that lineup over the past 3 seasons. I can't see them getting rid of him, especially when poor pitching and defense were the main problems for them in the series.

There is always a chance he just wants to get the hell away from the Bronx Zoo. Doubtful, but who knows?

They only have 15 days to resign him after the world series then they have to put him on waivers.

Perhaps but I doubt it. Playing for the Yankees only increases his profile and makes him bigger in Japan. The only other team I could possibly see him at is Seattle.

There is a serious hole in this entire thread. And its relying on Dye's production to continue at this pace. Do you all realize that this year was basically his most productive and healthy since he was in KC?

2004 137 games .265 23 80

2003 65 games .172 4 20

2002 131 games .252 24 86

2001 61 games .297 13 59 (Oak)

2000 157 games .321 33 118 (KC)

there is no real trend of Dye being healthy. It was one of the reasons that he was let go from Oakland. He had one of his first real healty seasons this year. But according to his history, we shouldnt expect another season like this.

Don't you also think that IF Dye was moved to 1B it would increase his chances of staying healthy?

Well, didnt he hurt himself at the plate 2 years ago? I dont think it has much to do with it.

Well, I guess fluke injuries basically mean the Sox shouldn't go after a lot of players. If you're worried about the offensive production that Dye will give the Sox next year, then I don't want to know how poorly you think B. Anderson would do as an everyday starter. Of course this offense will likely suffer if PK leaves via free agency. It would be up to KW to use some of the money saved to bring another dynamic to this offense.

Well I'm talking about how he'll have to run around less at 1B than he would at RF, even though most of the time in RF you're just standing there.

But things like that at the plate are just freak things, Joe Crede never hurt himself real bad before this season when his back played up and he almost broke his finger trying to lay down a bunt.

Dye has been injury prone in his career, and it wasnt just a freak accident. Why do you think we got him for such a bargain. There is no real proof that he will continue to play as well as he has, based on his career numbers and trends. He will not play 1B for us, and if anything he will be a DH in the future.

A lot of Dye's injuries happened from diving in the outfield. You would eliminate that aspect with him at 1b. Most experts thought that if Dye stayed healthy at the Cell, he'd hit 30 homers.
