If there was no chance of Buerhle re-signing with us, and say St. Louis offered a trade deal involving players like Anthony Reyes, Adam Wainwright etc. would you possibly be interested in that?

If such a scenario presents itself where Buehlre is traded, he should go to the team offering the most talent in return; whether or not that's St. Louis. I want Williams to absolutely pillage any team inquiring about his availability. If we were offered an unbelievable package--truth be told--I wouldn't object to trading Buehlre. Although I want to make it clear that this 'scenario' would have to include an unquestionable phenom, cant-miss stud prospect. Basically the next Felix Hernandez.

One problem I can already forsee is the amount of money/years Buehlre would ask in regards to a contact extension. Since he'll be 28 when his current deal expires, perhaps he won't object to a three year deal. Really, what other alternative do we have if he moves onto St. Louis? Anyone capable of replacing his numbers readily on the market whose not asking for a ridiculous contract? If he were to become a FA following next season, there's no minor league arms ready for promotion unless someone has a breakout year...

Well, the worry for the Cardinals right now shouldn't be Buehrle, IMO, it should more so be the fact that like 4 out of their current 5 starting pitchers are Free Agents after this season, if ESPN last night is to be believed. All but Carpenter

 

They're going to have to come up with some money this year, not next, in order to keep that staff together. Or they could give us Albert.

The only way he'd leave is if he wants to pitch somewhere else. I think he loves Chicago and the fans and we're building a winning team with pitching. He is the cornerstone of that.

 

Money won't be an issue IMO, but I know I was talking with Mike (ss2k6) at Soxfest and we both agreed that Buehrle would probably get around 5 years and upwards of 70 million on the open market.

MB should get nothing short of a 5 year deal when this one expires. He isnt a power pitcher, and really isnt that injury prone. These type of pitchers keep their prime longer than most.

haha I have a little story about Neal Cotts with the ladies. If someone wants to hear it they can PM me. But anyways with Mark, I can't blame him for wanting to go to his childhood team, this keeps popping up year after year so I think there is some truth to it. I hope he stays and pitches with the White Sox, but with the Cardinals being his favorite childhood team and the Cardinals being good and looking like they will for some time just makes it more appealing to play there.

The last thing I saw from him was saying that if the Sox gave him a contract, he would sign it and be the happiest guy in Chicago or something to that effect. I think it was in the Trib, but I don't think I saw that quote here. I wish I posted it now.

HUMMEL'S VIEW: The White Sox already have concerns about Garcia's arm and if anybody went after the season, it more likely would be he than Buehrle. But book it. Buehrle will pitch for the Cardinals one day. If his option isn't picked up next year, the Cardinals would be on the telephone immediately, especially considering they have four potential free-agent starters of their own.

 

And the chances of Buehrle's option not being picked up are none.

I was talking to someone(don't remember who) and I told that person that I believe Mark will get the sox biggest offer ever for a pitcher.

Buehrle will most likely get a four-year-deal. I think he'll be re-signed for two reasons: (1) His pitching style puts less wear and tear on one's elbow and shoulder than power pitchers and (2) his career and playoff numbers are good, but not great... meaning that they won't have to pay him an obnoxious Johnson- or Clemens-like salary.

Am I the only one who sees Buehrle as a Greg Maddux-type? You know, a solid pitcher who doesn't overpower, relies on control/his fielders more often than not, can pitch a ton of innings and will pitch until he's quite a few years old?
