What would you think of this deal?

What would you say to this deal?

Sox get: Ceasar Izturis and Kenny Lofton (or Jason Repko when Healthy)

Dodgers get: Josh Fields

Well, first of all, we'd have a problem on the face of it of trying to find 2 different spots on the 25 man roster, when right now Anderson is the only logical candidate to go down unless someone else winds up on the DL.

Anywho, couple other things. One...the Dodgers right now are in a pennant race. You'd be asking them to give up 2 of their players, one of whom who is currently a starter and the other of whom they hope can back up their Middle Infielders at some point, for a prospect. I just don't think that makes sense for them. Not with Coletti as their GM.

And I still say Fields is untradeable until we know Crede's long term status better.

That's too much from the Sox side and still don't think the Dodgers would make the trade simply because Lofton is thier leadoff hitter and they are currently a game out in the west.

Cesar Izturis is completely useless, what exacty does he bring to the table outside of great defense (which Uribe already has)? He's overpriced, comming off major surgery and a s***ty hitter.

In the unlikely event that a player like Lidge or Shields becomes available next month, I wouldn't say that Fields is untradeable. But a stud would have to be involved for Fields to be moved. Izturis and Lofton don't fall into that category.

I foresee KW signing Crede to a long-term deal in the offseason and Fields moving to LF to replace Pods.

I could have swore that Little was going Furcal first, then Lofton 2nd. Did he make some changes recently? I haven't watched a Dodger game in a week or two.

No, you're right Furcal has been the leadoff hitter for just about the entire season (Lofton only has 18PA in the leadoff spot) I'm just so used to seeing him leadoff that I typed it out subconciously.

Didn't Lofton have a problem in the Sox clubhouse?

you cant trade fields!

I'd do it. Lofton could help out in CF (although I"m a big Repko fan) and I know a lot of people here don't like Ceasar, but he's a top notch defensive SS who can also play 2nd and has shown at times that he can hit for a good avg at the ML level (still not great at drawing walks).

Ya...Furcal 1 Lofton 2 has been the way they are doing things.

I believe so. He was the player rep during the 02 season while negotiations were going on, and he had a totally different opinion on the new CBA than the bulk of the clubhouse did. I may be wrong though, as it was like 4 years ago.

And as for this trade, I dont think I would do it. Lofton plays a mediocre CF nowadays, and I don't see the need for another middle infielder.

Seriously, thank you.

No. Izturis has no spot. And Lofton isn't an upgrade

The rumor that was reported on the radio was that Lofton had a problem playing for the White Sox, as he supposedly told people that he was a Cubs fan growing up.

I hate the looks of this trade, but how can people really say stuff like this? We have the worst CF combo in all of baseball. Half of AAA would be an upgrade over what we have now.

Really? Well, holy s***, why don't we trade half our f***ing team for some AAA reject?

This s*** is getting old.

Worst deal I have ever seen, and that includes Winsox05's Podsednik for Jose Lima and Jose Contreras for Gil Meche.

Cesar Izturis's numbers are worse than Uribe's. He is not an upgrade. I'm also pretty sure Lofton left a bad taste in KW's mouth when he traded him in 2002.

Fields???

I don't think that Lofton-Cub fan crap came up until 2003.

I thought KW was upset seeing how well Lofton played with SF after he traded him because it looked like Lofton quit after his awesome 2002 April.

If you can explain why the Dodgers would start looking at 2007, then you may have me...

Otherwise, look at teams that may be looking to unload some talent come July...

:cheers

Why replace Pods? I know he isn't the best defensively but we need him as a lead off hitter.

It will be awful if we get Lofton.

He sucked last time he was a Sox.

No Lofton, no Clayton ... ever.

So basically, we'd be trading Fields for Lofton and an overpaid automatic out. That would be a horrible deal..

So, we trade our best bat in our minor leagues. We get a SS who isnt as good as even A Cintron, and an aging Cf'er who really wouldnt have a spot defensively or offensively. Hmmm. No

I have no idea if Itzuris will be healthy, but you guys that think Citron is better are freaking nuts. 1st off, a healthy Itzuris is better defensively than Uribe and 2nd off, the guy was still incredibly raw when he first came up with the Dodgers, he had a few really strong runs where he showed he could hit, and his only major concern (aside from the elbow) would be his plate discipline.

Soxtalk grossly underates Itzuris. You won't find many smart Dodger fans who really would like to see Itzuris go, the only problem is they don't really have a spot for him.

In a full season, the guy has had a OBP above .302 once in his career (2004; .330), and had a OPS above .667 once (2004; .711). Despite this, he's making 3.1 million this year, $4.15 million next year, and a team option for $5.45 million in 2008. He's making more money than both Cintron and Mackowiak, yet both are better players. He would have no role on this team since Uribe and Iguchi are around, and Cintron backs them both up (as does Ozuna).

I agree, thats why im coming from. Right now, the combo of Uribe and Cintron is better.

I actually think Izturis is a pretty good player and has a lot of talent.... but he isnt really that big of an upgrade over what we currently have out there especially coming back from an injury. And btw he is much better than Mackowiak and more talented than Cintron. He also is very talented defensively so we wouldnt lose anything from Uribe to him. But still I dont think he would be a real upgrade this season and isnt worth getting.
