Papelbon: 40 46 26 29 25 3 3 2 1 8 47 .224 .200

Ryan: 39 42.2 24 25 21 4 4 0 0 9 54 .162 .197

I'd say it's just about a toss-up as to who the better pitcher has been overall but when it comes to doing what a closer is expected to do (close games) BJ Ryan takes the cake.

How does he take the cake?

One player 26/29, another 24/25... That is far from being dramatically 'better.'

Through half a season one has blown 3 saves and the other has only blown 1, I never said BJ was dramatically better but he has done a better job at closing out games.

Well Papelbon has done a better job overall, as you said. I guess I'm missing what we're arguing about.

Anyone who knew there baseball would know that Papelbon, Ryan, Jenks or any reliever for that matter don't qualify for this "triple crown" you speak of.

Statistics: WHIP/BAA/ERA

Papelbon: .72/.155 /.59

Liriano: .97/.201/1.83

So I don't have a clue as to what you are talking about and I don't think you do either. Perhaps you're of the opinion that relievers cannot win the Cy Young, but you've yet to say that.

Who doesn't have a man crush on Halladay? :)

Try to keep up with me here. Liriano is a STARTING PITCHER who damn near guarantees a victory for his team every time he takes the mound. Those triple corwn numbers are spread out over 90 innings pitched. Papelbon comes in to pitch for one freaking inning.

If Liriano was on the Red Sox, it would be a completely different story, wouldn't it?

The admins try their best to make this place a gimp-free zone, but people like you just keep slipping through the cracks.

I had actually thought Ryan was gonna flop in Toronto before the season started.

I'm keeping up with you here, you just fail to stick to the topic at hand. I don't give a flying f*** if he's a starting pitcher, and Papelbon/Ryan are closers. They are pitchers and therefore both qualify for the award of being the Most Valuable Pitcher, or Cy Young Award Winner. I'll stop here, to let it sink in, by asking the question I asked you a couple hours ago: Why do you believe that closers cannot contend for the Cy Young award?

No, it wouldn't be a different story. Liriano has started ten games. He's been impressive, but Bronson Arroyo is a prime example of what time can do to you, as it happened to him last year in Boston, and seems to be happening to him again in the National League. Best of luck to both of them, You on the otherhand need to read what is being asked of you, and stop being an argumentitive, name calling buffoon.

A DH is not the most valuable player, maybe the most valuable batter, but not player, DHs only bat 4-5 times a game. All the DH's should be tops in the league in batting, that is all they have to do. How about a player that has comparable batting stats with solid D?

What wasn't accurate about the statistics that I listed?

Papelbon has been better than Ryan this year. Regardless, both should be considered for the award.

Again, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.

Correct. So if anyone posted faulty statistics, it was Rock, not me.

What was faulty about my stats? Ryan has been better in those three categories, sorry bout it.

The statistics I listed were entirely accurate, you chose to add in whose blown more saves and in the process of accusing me of posting false statistics, which wasn't true in the least, you posted one less blown save for Papelbon than you should have.

I didnt accuse you of anything dude. I put Ryan in there instead of Liriano. Read more closely. I was guessing on blown saves, the rest are totally accurate. Ryan has been a better reliever and closer this season.

Ryan isn't far and away better, but he is still clearly better given these stats.

Papelbon still has a better chance to win, though, based on the fact that he plays in Boston. That sounds like I might be joking, but it's honestly how I feel. Papelbon would win right now because he's on the Red Sox.

Absolutely thats the case. Otherwise you wouldnt have people on here saying that Papelbon has been the best reliever hands down, he really hasnt been, but nobody realizes that.
