National game. What else is new this year. Playing dumb.

 

We were great on national games this year.

Buehrle just quit and let all of teammates down. I have never seen a pitcher who quits on his team after errors as much as Mark. This is the third straight start he just didn't care.

Its incredible how much Buerhle becomes batting practice when the Sox commit a miscue in the field lately. I think there may be something wrong with him. He's struggled before, and snapped back, but I can't ever recall him getting hit as hard as he's been the last 3 or 4 starts.

Yeah, I'm sure he doesn't care. After those first two runs, he said, f*** it, I don't care if we win.

He is just laying in first pitches right over the heart of the plate. Not caring was too harsh, but he is not focused.

Nothing else to say about him, except as I predicted last week we would be 6 games out after the tiger series and fighting for the wild card spot. the ship is sinking and we will need a trade big time to infuse some light in this team. 51 pitches is not that many pitches for buehrle, could be he is hurt.

See this is why we need to draft some project electric arms with good fastballs... because when they are missing their spots they at least can get by with their stuff... when mark is up up up up and off the plate... hes worthless... sorry

I love blaming only the pitcher when he got pathetic fielding behind him. Buehrle might be a lot of things, but there's no bigger competitor on the Sox.

gotta hope that Freddy steps up tomorrow because you know the Yankees are going for the kill shot and the Tigers ain't losing to the Royals all weekend.

 

Frightening thought to go into Detroit 5 1/2 out, needing to win at least two.

 

But it's sure possible.

The Red Sox and Yankees have yet to see what we're capable of....

 

Regardless though Kenny should be making calls about starting pitching.

Well it was a damn good move to get him out after 51 pitches, regardless of the score. They are not coming back from an 8-0 defecit and Buehrle is clearly doing something wrong, whether it's tipping pitches or something mechanical. So get him out and let him try to fix whatever his problem is on the sidelines.

Or maybe he just hasn't had a team like the Royals to face to get him back on the right track. I know he faced the Cubs, but that was a solid line-up they had that day, and the wind was blowing out.

Buerhle doesn't have his command, and there is a very fine line with him being great or terrible. His stuff isn't good enough to get out professional hitters if he can't spot it. When he's pinpoint, he's a stud.

Trust me, I don't agree with what I said, but it's the reality of how baseball works. There's been way too much talk about how this is the greatest rotation in history. The whole Vazquez trade has really been a disaster so far.

 

 

I agree with the fact that the trade has been a disaster, but I don't buy into the whole "rotation is s***" argument anyway.

 

A little surface level research:

 

Boston's rotation: Beckett 5.12 ERA, Clement 6.61 ERA and injured, Schilling 3.60 ERA, Wells 8.64 ERA and injured, Wakefield, 4.05 ERA and DTD, and Lester 2.89 ERA and no experience. I'm not liking their rotation long term over ours. It is completely relying upon Lester continuing to be spectacular.

 

NYY's rotation: Johnson 5.06 ERA, Mussina 3.23 ERA, Chacon 6.71 ERA, Wang 4.00 ERA, Wright 4.05 ERA. Johnson has basically been as bad as Vazquez, Chacon has been terrible. Wang and Wright have both been servicable.

 

Detroit has a great rotation, but Rogers is complete s*** in the second half and Verlander doesn't have enough innings to keep this up. His arm will go dead. Those two things are bound to send this team into a tailspin.

 

In short, nobody has a great rotation who we'd be facing in the playoffs.

 

Honestly guys, did you think we were going to go cruising along winning EVERY SINGLE SERIES without having serious roadbump again? This stretch for us is brutal with Bos, NYY, Det, and I am likening it to last season's mid-August stretch. Let's just get through it, salvage some games where we can, and get back to gaining our confidence back with a relatively easy last part of the month and august schedule.

Dude's thrown 220+ innings over the last five seasons. But if he were hurt, he probably wouldn't be throwing as hard. Haven't seen today's game, but he didn't look like he's lost much velocity in his last two starts.

We're not playing National League teams anymore. There's not a baseball expert alive who's watched our series vs the Red Sox and Yankees and thought we were a better team. The scary thing is that we've had our 2 best guys face both teams in the 5 games so far.

84 users still in this thread. At least I'm not alone. I won't give up. Of course there are a few bad apples who I think almost love losing games like this, so they can have a reason to b**** for the next couple hours.

Yea well he seems to be bad alot. In fact I would say we couldn't count on him to pitch a good game right now. Say what you want about his competiveness and continue to back him up but quite frankly I view him as Unreliable at this point in time. Now in addition to him the sox are completely lacking focus. They feel the slide happening. There heads are not in the game. No fundelmentals, and poor defense.
