The guy is 100 yrs old. How man more quality years do you think he has left?

It has nothing to do with his age, I just love seeing Thome. I really don't want to deal with losing another one of my favorite players, again. spiff, I cried during Favre's last game last year, and he didn't even end up retiring.

I keep trying to rationalize. We can still sweep this series since the orioles have such terrible pitchers going the next two days, we can still sweep KC, detroit can still sweet minnesota.

but even then it all comes crashing back down. freddy and javy and buehrle arent going to get better (well, we will see about buerhle) the tigers dont lose, the twins dont lose, and we havent even gotten to the yankees yet.

we just arent going to get it done this year.

Trading Thome would be idiotic. The effect he has had on this offense this year is beyond incredible.

He's had a major effect on guys like Dye and Crede while AJ has went away from his pull hitting ways of the past two years (Which is a major plus). However, by himself I do think Jim Thome is over-rated just a bit. I realize his stats say one thing but he's too much of a pure slugger for my liking and if this team doesn't do things well, I wouldn't be opposed to moving him for a more all around player (and yes I'm talking about getting a superstar type player in return, not just some decent guy, even if it meant we threw in a few prospects).

It looks like the Sox could use a few pots of the "leaded" coffee.

I'll blame Williams/company more for failing to move McCarthy into the rotation more than standing pat at the deadline.

Exactly. If after the deadline Garcia and Vazquez are still on the team while McCarthy's rotting in the bullpen, we'll know KW and Ozzie are chickenspiff and concerned with something other than winning baseball games.

deep breaths people... this game ain't over and there are a lot of games left...

(and you can save the sarcastice responses, I won't be reading them)

That wasn't the question though, it was whether we would accept a White Flag trade, AKA trading our superstars for loads of soon-to-be-ready prospects?

So Hawk....if our offense isn't going to keep up their productivity all season, and the pitching staff has shown no overall signs of improvement, why is KW not upgrading the offense?

god uribe and BA just do something miraculous here and turn our frowns upside down

and what makes you think this team is going to turn it around before theyre like 4 games back with a month to play??

2nd and 3rd, 1 out. What are the odds that we score a run? 5-1 against?

Uribe is flat out awful.

I don't care if he goes on another hot streak and his 50 RBIs over the next 30 games, I want consistency. And he seems to let his plate struggles affect him in the field, which is another huge downside to the kid. SS should be the top of the list in offseason acquisitions for K-Dubb, assuming he doesn't trade off a SP.

with BA up? hahaha

in all seriousness, we need 2 this inning

Whatever Hawk. There were tons of rumors last year with Griffey and Burnett.

Fact is, these players do not look motivated at all. That is what Ozzie is supposed to be good at, getting his guys up for the game. We all already know that he's pretty sub-par at managing a game, so he has to be good at motivation. I just want to see some intensity out of these guys. Ozzie might as well say "meh" to every question he is asked in his postgame conferences. He just doesn't seem to think much of this terrible play.

I find it amusing that we are considering that Ozzie needs to be more demonstrative. I think he has often treaded a fine and effective line when it comes to overdoing it .......... to the point where nobody listens. I am sure he feels that a giant rant at the moment might backfire, especially if it serves no purpose. Personally, I think he has shown himself to be incedibly intuitive as far as when to push the buttons and when not to. I trust his decision making. Have you considered that nobody could get this team going at the moment. Would it surprise that many people if, despite the way they are playing, they turned things around. Perhaps he feels that he needs to be supportive at this difficult time, rather than assuming the scolding parent.

At this point you almost have to ask yourself is it wise to just stand pat. It hasn't worked for a couple weeks and there has been a precident set this season with Liriano and Weaver, two guys who were moved into the rotation and provided major sparks for teams that appeared to have zero chances at making the playoffs.

In Weaver's case he was pitching as a starter in the minors so he was pretty ready to come up, but he doesn't have the experience Mac has. In Liriano's case he was only throwing out of the pen for about a month so his stamina wasn't quiet as effected and well, I'm not stupid enough to compare Liriano and McCarthy.

However, no one is going to tell me that Weaver is better than McCarthy. I like Weaver a lot but he's pitching over his head right now (no pitcher is as good as he's been as of late, but he will have a very good career if he stays healthy). Mac should have a very similar fate as well and its time to see if we can create some sort of spark by moving him into the rotatoin.

THe question is who do we replace, Freddy or Buehrle. I'd love to think we could move Freddy for prospects but thats a sign of a team giving up and I don't think Kenny is willing to do that. I'm convinced Freddy got fat and lazy over the off-season and thats why his velocity is down. In Buehrles case he can't locate and his velocity is a bit down as well, but he has had success for an extended period this year and I'd prefer to be on him re-figuring things out.

Basically put, now is as good a time as any to make a change and see what happens. We don't give up prospects, but we shake up the makeup of this team and tell everyone that there jobs aren't safe.

This is a situation where Anderson has to shorten his swing.

ok.. whatever dude. i'm just trying to get some runs and win a game and have fun. your not

I wouldnt mind seeing 2 wild pitches in a row

Brian doing good things, I'm sure he'll sit tomorrow.

There we go. pablo get a single and were back in it

Hawk and DJ back to dishing out the excuses. Apparently, our players are all struggling because they don't want to be traded away from their bestest friends.
