Cintron on leave/Gonzalez up

Featured Replies

Radio pregame reporting that Alex had to leave to go back to PR for a few days due to his grandfather having suffered a stroke. Andy Gonzalez is up for a few days while Cintron tends to family business. Reports are that Alex's grandfather basically raised him so he's closer than the standard grandfather/grandson relationship. Best to #8!

Cintron leaves Sox to be with ailing grandfather

By Mark Gonzales

Tribune staff reporter

April 22, 2007, 11:03 AM CDT

DETROIT -- White Sox infielder Alex Cintron was placed on the bereavement list Sunday, and infielder Andy Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

Cintron left this morning to fly to his native Puerto Rico to attend to his grandfather, who suffered a stroke.

This is Gonzalez's first promotion to the majors. He was batting a team-leading .333 with two home runs and a .400 on-base percentage.

Interesting that they have a link there "Lower your blood pressure".

Good luck and prayers. Hopefully all will be well with Alex and his grandfather, and maybe Andy (Angel) can help us a little.

Best of luck to Alex. Can anyone remind me if it was Gonzalez or Valido who used roids?

Valido.

We have quite a few not very good players on our roster right now. Does Gonzalez have a chance to ever actually make the bigs?

It must be great to get called up the majors for a game or two in an emergency like this. You get bumped up to a ML salary, right?

AGon was on the 40 man already.

Does that mean he was making a major league salary already?

Best of luck to Alex. Prayers for his Grandfather.

That's sad news, hopefully everything works out alright.

Sad news about Cintron and his grandfather.

But, the good news is now, we have 2 scrubs on our roster who would not be on any other team in the majors.

Wilson Valdez is on the Dodgers, and Tony Pena Jr. is on the Royals roster, and that's just off the top of my head. So yeah, these guys would be on other rosters.

Wilson Valsez, yes, but Tony Pena has made some sick plays for the royals, and is hitting like .280 something.

The highest his OPS ever was in the minors was .671. He may be good defensively, but he's a horrible hitter.

and he's hitting .197

Best wishes go out to Cintron and his family.
