You'd be doing this team a disservice though to not field a competent DH. With Thome and Pods not coming back until June, you can't let this team fall too far behind. Considering this is likely our last year to compete for the championship for the next few years, you can't sit on your hands and do nothing.

 

But you can't sacrifice 2008-2012 either, though. Even with a healthy Thome, the odds are stacked against this team. And that really has nothing to do with this team, per se -- it's just, there are three other very good teams in this division. I know it's a defeatist attitude to say something like this, but chances are we don't win the division.

 

If you can find a match by trading Broadway, McCollough, Haeger, some of the excess relievers, then by all means go and do it. Who knows, maybe we can find this year's Wayne Krivsky who is willing to give up a very good OFer (Kearns) for a bunch of relievers. Philly is having bullpen trouble -- maybe they'll let us take Pat Burrell off their hands for half the AAA pitching staff.

It is the Southern Leauge, and yes there is a serious lack of offense there this season. But Egbert's AA numbers between this and last year cannot be ignored.

This is the most pathetic display of hitting I have ever seen. The highest batting average in today's lineup was .250. The next highest is .242. PATHETIC.

Find a guy who will be a FA after this year or can play in LF. I know some might hate him, but Jacque Jones is someone who could really help this team.
