Not saying Walker has done a good job, but the talent in the lineup is probably the worst in the American League. This specific lineup fields five (!) below average hitters (Sweeney, Erstad, Uribe, Cintron, Mackowiak), two average hitters who are playing below average (Pierz, Crede) and two good-to-very-good hitters who haven't gotten going yet (Dye, Konerko).

 

This is an awful lineup and no hitting coach would make a difference.

It's obvious the book on Jenks and Thornton is to swing at the first pitch straight fastball. Never in a million years did I think Wood would make contact against Jenks.

That's the book on every pitcher. Cooper preaches "throwing strikes," which is good when you off an ability to locate offspeed pitches and throw them at any count over the plate.

Why is Hawk so upset? He made a good swing on the pitch, put wood on it, and got a single. So it went in on his hands a bit. It was not pure luck.
