June 4, 200718 yr Getting into an argument with a co-worker here so I figured I would see what some of the experts here think. I know both are pretty fast but is it really clear who is faster?
June 4, 200718 yr In a 40 yard dash on a track? On the basepaths? Out of the batter box? In the outfield? During an SB attempt?
June 4, 200718 yr Owens is clearly faster on a track, and im sure he has numbers out there. But Pie may be faster on the base paths.
June 4, 200718 yr QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Owens is clearly faster on a track, and im sure he has numbers out there. But Pie may be faster on the base paths. Doesnt matter. Owens should start in leadoff every day to see what we have.
June 4, 200718 yr QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Doesnt matter. Owens should start in leadoff every day to show that it shouldn't cost $1M to $3M to get a light hitting, low-OBP speedster to play OF. Edited June 4, 200718 yr by Gene Honda Civic
June 4, 200718 yr Author QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) In a 40 yard dash on a track? On the basepaths? Out of the batter box? In the outfield? During an SB attempt? All of them!
June 4, 200718 yr QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:01 AM) Getting into an argument with a co-worker here so I figured I would see what some of the experts here think. I know both are pretty fast but is it really clear who is faster? Did they ever date the same girl? She could probably tell us... Oh wait you meant... sorry

June 5, 200718 yr doesnt matter Pie is the better prospect and I would trade owens for him right now if I had the chance.
June 5, 200718 yr QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) doesnt matter Pie is the better prospect and I would trade owens for him right now if I had the chance. I wouldn't mind trading Gustavo Molina for Jorge Posada either.
June 5, 200718 yr Owens should hit the weight room regardless of whether it takes a little of his speed with him, I think he's thinner than Juan Pierre. And, according to weights and heights, I might be right. Yahoo has Pierre listed at 5'11, 180 opposed to Owens at 6'3 190. 4 inches should be more than 10 pounds.
June 5, 200718 yr It's like Willie Mays Hayes. You can't steal bases if you keep going 0 for 5 every night.
June 5, 200718 yr QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I wouldn't mind trading Gustavo Molina for Jorge Posada either. I see, so you agree Owens blows. Good your coming along. How about sweeney is he a step above Gustavo, I would trade him too, oh and andersen too. In fact I would trade all three of those clowns for Pie.

How about sweeney is he a step above Gustavo, I would trade him too, oh and andersen too. In fact I would trade all three of those clowns for Pie. Owens isn't really in the same league as Sweeney. Not many people see Owens as much more than a 4th outfielder, it's been that way for a while.
June 5, 200718 yr Author So can someone maybe find some speed ratings somewhere? I know Jerry was rated fastest in our minor league system.
June 5, 200718 yr QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) So can someone maybe find some speed ratings somewhere? I know Jerry was rated fastest in our minor league system. You are wrong.
June 5, 200718 yr QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) Was it Paulo Orlando? Even if Owens was "rated" faster than Orlando, he'd see nothing but his back in a foot race.
June 5, 200718 yr QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Even if Owens was "rated" faster than Orlando, he'd see nothing but his back in a foot race. I agree...Orlando is ridiculously fast and he's made a lot of progress at the plate (plus he has some nice peripheal tools). Still very raw player though.
June 5, 200718 yr Author QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) You are wrong. Well thats what I get for listening to the ESPN announcers. I'll suspend myself from posting for 445 minutes.
