North vs South question for the ages... or at least 07

That's easy...the Cubs. We have three teams in our division to compete with better than any team in their division. If they win 85 games this year, there's a great chance they make the playoffs. We'd have to win at least 90 games, if not more.

If you had to pick a team for the rest of 2007, would you rather have the Cubs or the Sox? They are both in a shambles right now, with the potential to either really turn things around, or end up in last place. Whose chances do you like better and why?

As much as it pains me to say...the Cubs. The main reason is simple, they are in the s***tiest division known to man and it will be up for grabs until the last day of the season. They could very easily go on a small run (who knows if it is likely or not) and get closer to the lead in the division.

Its not that the team is that great, it isn't. But that division sucks...

Who would you rather run a race against? Carl Lewis or Ron Santo. That is basically what you are asking here.

That Cub division really does blow.

It reminds me of ours in the mid to late 90s. Thats why Cleveland ran off so many division titles, the rest of us were so bad. Check it out, except for a couple years, their records weren't that hot.

to all you newly found cub fans, just wanna let you know, your team is 8 games below .500 in the worst division in baseball.

And yet they're only 7.5 games back. Considering how weak the competition is in that division and how often they play the teams ahead of them with the unbalanced schedules, a nice 12-3 stretch and they could gain a ton of ground on the top dogs.

You can not say the same for the Sox considering 2 of the best teams in baseball (with Cleveland possibly being the best) reside atop the AL Central.

What is your point? A below .500 team may actually be the winner of that division. That division is that bad. Sad but true.

The Sox are actually 2.5 games closer to a playoffs spot than the Cubs are right now.

I guess I assumed you were asking about who had the better chance to win the division and not just the better chance to get into the playoffs.

Put the Sox in the NL Central and they win the division easily. Hell, the Royals would likely finish in the top 2 in the NL Central. No joke.

It's a myth the White Sox would win this division easy. Why are they so much better than the Brewers?

We have a deeper starting rotation, but Sheets/Capuano can hold their own with our top 2.

Other than the starting pitching, I can't see where the Brewers would rank behind the White Sox.
