I'm sure there are going to be many people faithful to the novel very upset with this trailer. It's obvious they're attempting to appeal to the general public . First off, if the movie is going to be at all close to be book the whole intro with global warming and a tornado is deceiving. Cormac McCarthy himself said in an interview that when writing of the destruction he had envisioned an asteroid hitting the planet. That would explain devastation on a scale that covers large amounts of land, blocks out the sun, and turns the Atlantic ocean grey from fallen ash. On that note, it's EXTREMELY disappointing not to observe any ash in this trailer. The book mentioned it frequently, and it added to the dreary vision in your mind of McCarthy's post apocalyptic world.

I had my doubts about this film when it was delayed last fall. I believe the essential problem here is trying to faithfully adapt the book, which has sparse dialogue and numerous moments of boredom. These moments, while appealing in the book, don't translate well into film if you're putting millions into post production (ie, Special FX of cities). You figure at the end of the world it isn't going to be adventure, as much as boredom and a fight for survival outside of battling cannibals. I wonder from this trailer if the cannibal angle is going to be pushed heavily.

I'm not so sure. Hillcoat had no problem making The Proposition quite bleak and boring...

Seriously?

Seriously?

Admittedly I'll need to see it again to pass final judgment, but I wasn't particularly moved by it the first time.

Got around to watching Milk despite my hatred for Sean Penn. Thought it was mediocre, if not bad. So many interesting things were happening, but the story never took us any deeper than showing us.

Just watched The Fisher King for the first time and wasn't very moved by it. It was very cricially acclaimed (although it did get two thumbs down) but I just wasn't feeling it.

I loved Fisher King when it came out but I need to see it again and see if my opinion has changed. Mostly, at the time I thought it represented a highly accessible Gilliam film that might bring him a larger audience. Twelve Monkeys and possibly Fear and Loathing probably did more for him on that score at any rate.

I debated where to put this, but I guess this is good as anything. It's JJ Abrams from 2007 at the TED conference. Really cool insight into how he thinks.

Outside of the

destroying of Vulcan

, it doesn't bother me; but why make a "Star Trek" movie if

you aren't goin to keep with the franchise's history

?

You could have easily used "Alpha Quest" or "Space Travelers" and done whatever you wanted.

But why get hamstrung by confusing continuity if you don't have to?

I really liked Angels & Demons

I'm not hamstrung. I just don't like the fact that it was done.

That's like not blowing up Alderaan and keeping Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru alive.

It creates a false story not true to what you already know as a fan of the genre.

Review

So, does the film merit viewing? That's up to you. The characters aren't the least bit interesting and the dialogue borders on childish (I'm particularly partial to Bale's climactic radio address where he speaks in broad platitudes rather than explaining why the resistance should take the contrary action he is suggesting). But the technical aspects are often breathtaking and the action beats satisfy more often than not. The film is rich in atmosphere and genuinely feels a part of the Terminator mythos. It's not required viewing and the Terminator Salvation is a deeply flawed picture, and easily the least of the Terminator pictures. But wow, that first-act chase is a knockout.

Grade: C

Yeah I am reading some bleh reviews for T-Salvation, not BAD,but certainly not good.

When I saw he was directing, it pissed me off. Still gonna see it, but not expecting it to be good.

OOOOOOOooooooooHHHHHHH! GOOD FOR YOU........

This does not bode well...

Then again, maybe McG intended to destroy this franchise, cuz the boy sure do love him some explosions. Salvation doesn’t so much say, “Hey, world, here’s my new Terminator movie!” as it says, “Hey, Michael Bay, I. Am. Coming. For. You.” If McG hoped that his veritable orgy of techno toys -- oo, look, a Terminator that’s like a motorcycle! oo, look, a gigantic Transforminator! -- and stuff blowing up would be, you know, orgiastically thrilling, well, it isn’t. It’s boring. So boring that next to McG, Michael Bay is an auteur of cinematic destruction.

Skynet didn’t need to send Terminators back in time to kill John Connor. It just needed to wait for McG to come along and do the job for it.

admit it, you are a fan of Charlies Angels Full Throttle, arent you ;)

Got free passes to see Terminator tonight at midnight. Probably a mistake seeing I have to go to work at 4:30am. Lukcily there is a Dunkin Donuts open 24/7 in Gurnee.

I expect it to be horrible, but for free, don't care.

I'm pissed off that the new Terminator is shaping up to be such a turd. I've been looking forward to this installment for a long time.

Can I make a confession? I've never seen any of the terminator movies.

There will be several more installments in the series after this. I'm actually looking forward to it, because after the abuse this movie has received it'll force them to hire writers that are capable of telling a story.

Although, from some of the reviews I've read it reminds me of a moment in the movie, "The Heckler." It's a film about audience hecklers and their presence in the standup comedy world. Jamie Kennedy noted that it has not just become a review of the movie good or bad, but a competition to see who can throw out the most unique insult of a movie. I'll admit some are funny, but really, that's not the job of a film reviewer. It was discussed here on Soxtalk at one point, too. Just give the review, say why it was good or bad, and leave the comments to IMDB message boards.

This is going to be a film people are going to love to hate. Yesterday I noticed it was at 23% on the Rotten Tomatoes counter. This was, admittingly, with a handful of reviews. It has now risen about 13 percentage points. Still bad.

I'll see it for sure since I'm a fan of the franchise and the Terminator Universe. My highest hopes were dashed when I first found out the focking Charlie's Angels director was going to do it, but I was holding out hope that he'd still put out a good product.

We shall see.

Wow, when I found out Bale was involved I was in. I've still been excited but haven't read or checked out what opinions were. Now I'm dissapointed, but maybe that'll be a good thing as I'll go in with low expectations and come out being entertained.
