It's actually good to see a LF who has an arm out there. Luckally we will hardly see Pods out there (damn near saw him anyway) the rest of the season.

The 5 hit attack over 11 innings from Greg Walker's warriors was another bright spot, but at least we got shut down by a stud pitcher who throws 101 from 8 arm angles hits it on the black.

 

 

I still don't get your enthusiasm for a high pick. Take a peek at our minor league system and tell me that those making the pick are not clueless.

 

Huge difference in the pool of players you're picking from with a top 3 pick compared to the 20 range.

Yep, as long as you don't cheap out the talent level and potential of the players at the top of the draft are much higher than the types of guys we have been drafting.

It was a line drive but I think he either slipped trying to make the catch or he misread the drive causing him to drop down and catch the ball. I wouldn't have either bother throwing the ball he knows he can barely reach 2nd base yet alone home plate.

So on a line drive... Owens got set up. Got behind it. Then dove for the ball. Then got up, ready to unleash his cannon arm home. Only to drop the ball.

 

At least we know why Ozzie likes him. He played that ball about as well as Ozzie managed that game tonight.

In his first 45 AB he batted .178, he followed that up with a .249 return over the season the following year. So what ballpark are you talking about. Lets not act like Ventura came up and hit at all. You had Richar the first year, and a less powerful Josh Fields the next year.

It would have been over long ago if the Rangers had executed.

 

The pitcher had at least 2 errors tonight. Richar's speed got him safe at first and 2 more bases on a bad throw, then scored on a shallow sac fly.

Several reasons I, among others, are enthusiastic:

 

- First time in more than fifteen years the White Sox will have a Top 10 pick.

 

- Certain talent is only available early. Porcello nonwithstanding. Verlanders, Mauers, Uptons, Lincecums, Brauns just don't fall without injuiy/performance concerns.

 

- We're allowing ourselves more players to scout. This widens the field and allows more options.

 

- A shift in organizational philosophy concerning picks makes me believe, if given an opportunity, they'll select the person with the hightest celing.

 

However, I'm still worried whether or not we'll be willing to sign a draft pick over slot recommendations. This depends heavily upon the expected value of fellow amateur players and their representation (ie, Boras). If we have an opportunity to select someone and miss out because of the aforementioned concepts, then something has to change in the top of management. We can't blow this chance. Lord knows we haven't succeeded selected 15 and above; may as well see what happens with an earlier selection.
