World Series: Red Sox v. Rockies

Featured Replies

I think the long layoff destroyed the Rockies. As hot as they were, things now are evening out. I don't think there is an AL team that if they had just played average for them the past 3 games wouldn't be up 3-0 in this series. Cleveland really has to be kicking themselves. They most likely choked away a title.

The Tigers completely blew that one. The Cardinals had the lowest winning percentage of a World Series winner ever. The Twins in 1987 had 85 wins. They also had the lowest winning percentage of a World Series participant since the Mets in 1973 (82 wins). That is how rare that is.

i guess i don't really understand what you want from the playoffs then. why is it a flawed system if the perceived best team in the playoffs doesn't win? everyone has an equal shot to win, we all know the "Once the playoffs start, anything can happen" mantra. I appreciate the fact that a team with a record that isn't as good as everyone else has a shot to win it all.

the Mets failed down the stretch big time and they wouldn't have fared much better with their pitching vs the Red Sox hitting. The Phillies got handled by the Diamondbacks, who then got handled by a team that had a streak as good as the White Sox in 2005 heading into the World Series.

I agree, this world series is boring and is hard to watch, but I don't think a flawed playoff system is necessarily to blame.

7-game LDS, 9-game LCS/WS, make it happen!

didn't really put any thought into the pros/cons of a setup like this, i just thought it sounded funny :P

Was Lester ever included in those talks for Dye? Even getting Lester + WMP for Dye at the deadline would've been a coup. I think Lester was a little less highly regarded (that's just my take, I certainly could be wrong) than Masterson and even Manny Delcarmen.

Yep -- I'm still thinking about that trade/deal that couldn't be reached/finalized

No, Lester is much more highly regarded than those guys as a lefty and a starter. No chance we were getting him or Ellsbury in a trade.

Even at the trade deadline I wasn't even thinking about Ellsbury. It amazed me at the general ignorance of some people at the trade deadline about certain players' value. When the report of Dye for WMP + Delcarmen (or Masterson) being very close was talked about that morning, there were actually people who thought we weren't getting enough. "WMP strikes out too much and Delcarmen is a reliever. Buccholz and Ellsbury with Beckett thrown in or no deal!"

Don't worry, give it a week, and the ignorance will be starting again with the offseason trade market/free agency period.

You know, you didn't have to think that the entire Red Sox roster had to be thrown in to think that we weren't getting enough for JD in that deal when compared with the 2 draft picks we'd get if he walked.

And ARod upstages the Red Sox sweeping.

There goes the Okajima Mistique.

Come on Rockies. You got a challenge now. 1 run against Papelbon. It's been done. Maybe you should have dealt for JD at the trading deadline.

And the Sawx are your 2007 World Series Champs.

Jub Jub.

Ghey

Well, that was boring as hell. Outside of Buehrle's no-hitter, Bonds record breaking homer, Thome's 500th homer, and Lilly's glove throw, this was about the most boring baseball season of my life.

At least it wasn't the Yankees. Or Cubs.

Come on KW, get us back there next year.

One of the most boring World Series ever.

What are the odds that the Red Sox are on the cover of the next Sports Illustrated? Next week in the NFL is Indy vs NE, both undefeated at 8-0.

ESPN says that Verlander and Bucholtz had the only no hitters.

Oh I can't wait for more Papelbon Riverdance
