Shanahan being canned is pretty surprising. At least now I don't have to completely avoid Denver RBs next year in fantasy.

"My sleeper of the year is Selvin Young"

Shanahan may have been 24-24 over the last 3 years, but he's still a damn good coach. Who better are they really gonna get? That team's offense definitely has a lot of talent, though, so whoever the new coach is is going into a pretty good situation. I'd say the Broncos job is probably the best one available right now. They have a young stud QB, 2 very good young WRs, and a bunch of young RBs that all looked good before getting hurt (Peyton Hillis or Ryan Torain both looked great before getting hurt, though what Denver RB hasn't looked great the last 10 years?). They defense has some good individual players, but they definitely need to add a few guys through free agency and the draft, and you could see Denver being a 10-win team next year based on talent level.

Thomas Jones goes on the record and another Jet teammate anonymously hammers Brett Favre as a teammate.

Appearing on a local radio show Tuesday, Jets running back Thomas Jones said Favre should have been benched during his three-interception performance against the Dolphins on Sunday, according to The Daily News.

"We're a team and we win together ... but at the same time, you can't turn the ball over and expect to win," Jones said in the interview. "The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that's just reality. If I were to sit here and say, 'Oh, man, it's OK,' that's not reality.

"The reality is, you throw interceptions, I'm (ticked) off, I don't like it. You know what I'm saying? I don't like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn't like it."

...

"If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game," Jones said in the WQHT-FM interview. "You're jeopardizing the whole team because you're having a bad day. To me, that's not fair to everybody else. You're not the only one on the team."

...

Another player said Favre was an awkward fit from almost the moment the Jets traded for him on Aug. 6 and released Chad Pennington. Favre reportedly spent considerable time during the season in a private office near the equipment room rather than in the locker room.

"There was a lot of resentment in the room about him," the anonymous teammate told Newsday. "He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone."

...

On Monday, fourth-year safety Kerry Rhodes told the paper: "If he's dedicated and he wants to come back and do this, and do it the right way ... and be here when we're here in training camp and the minicamps and working out with us ... then I'm fine with it. But don't come back if it's going to be halfhearted or he doesn't want to put the time in with us."

Jones isn't really the kind of player that will call a teammate out directly (except for the time he punched Benson, but that was in the locker room), so that's surprising to me.

Totally agree with you as far as their offense goes. And you didn't even mention Tony Scheffler and Ryan Clady as part of that outstanding offensive core. But their D is simply pathetic. It has been for the last few years (although losing Bailey/Williams during the year certainly didn't help). They've got a ways to go before they can get that side of the ball fixed.

Peyton Manning won his 3rd MVP award today.

Peyton Manning won his 3rd MVP award today.

Well-deserved, he basically carried the Colts into the playoffs on his back.

Manning puts up 4000 yard passing seasons like it's no big deal.

Should have went to Phillip Rivers.

MVP to the QB of a .500 team? Nah.

There were a lot of contenders this year, but no front runners. Could of gone to about 5 or 6 different guys.

It wasn't Rivers fault the Chargers had a terrible defense.

It's also not Peyton Mannings fault that he had a backfield full of mediocre or banged up running backs all year too. That, and the Colts had to win 12 games to get into the playoffs helps their case too.

Definitely well-deserved. Manning is just a phenomenal player. If not for the injury to start the season, which was a lot worse than he let on, his numbers this year would have been a lot better/more consistent. And you're right, he still put up great numbers like it was no big deal, which just shows how great of a player he is.

It's too bad that the vikings might be blacked out. I bet the station buys the remaining tickets though.

The fact that Minnesota can't sell out a playoff game shows how bad of a sports city they are.

Lovie met with Marinelli today.

That's a good thing for Bears fans. It can't get worse than Babich. I know alot of people say that, but in his case, it's true.

That's a good sign. I know that article from the Tribune said not to expect a decision from Marinelli too quickly, but it's a good sign nonetheless for him to be meeting with Lovie so soon. It looks like he's holding out for maybe a head coaching job somewhere, and if he doesn't get one, I'd think he's a lock to join the Bears' staff.

"I'm Ko Simpson with the Buffalo Bills. I am worth millions!"

alright, whatever you say Ko

Wow at no one watching today. Two very good games. SD looks like they'll be going to OT with Indianapolis, the weak NFC West champion, Arizona Cardinals prevailed over the Atlanta Falcons. Anyway, dumb playcalling by Rivers/Turner as they spiked the ball with a minute left at the opponent 30 on 1st down trailing by 3 and no timeouts. They tied the game, but on 3rd down, they called a run and were within a yard of first down. The previous play, Rivers threw the ball away. I notice he throws the ball away too much if there are no receivers open instead of running for first downs when he has the chance to. Also, his throwing motion is too over the top, he can't float the ball over anyone's heads and usually his passes are short.

I'm watching.

I actually thought the Chargers were up 17-14 and the FG put them at 20 b/c I wasn't paying attention, but it was obviously Colts 17-14 and the game is tied. I was like why are the announcers talking OT if the Colts need a TD?

SD/IND game is a damn good one going on. I'm pulling for the Colts even though I love LT, Gates, etc. I hate the asshole, that is, Phillip Rivers.

Chargers win. Sproles played a hell of a game.

Sproles... the little guy!!! Represent my man.

I'm sure that in the great football discussion that takes place across the nation, Peyton Manning will be blamed for the Colts' inability to stop Sproles, as he is always blamed for everything when the Colts lose in the playoffs.
