August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) you know the Baseball Gods are smiling down on your team today when Mike Redmond hits a triple http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=290830109 Paul Konerko had a triple in Boston, and I'd hardly say the baseball gods are doing us any favors
August 31, 200916 yr I missed that! Did an outfielder fall down? Because thats what happened in Redmond's case. The ball was a liner to center field, but the outfielders were shifted hard to the right. The LF came in with the ball rolling, and he slid to try to stop it but completely missed the ball and it rolled all the way to the fence
September 2, 200916 yr So is Kevin Mulvey a better prospect than Brandon Allen? That's what Minny gave up for Jon Rauch. Mulvey was part of that horrible Johan Santana package. Deolis Guerra has a 5.49 ERA in AA, Humber has been DFA twice and went unclaimed, and Carlos Gomez is complete trash except against the Sox.
September 3, 200916 yr QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Damn, Target Field in Minny is beautiful... Target Pics Views of the city skyline from the field. What a novel idea.
September 3, 200916 yr QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Damn, Target Field in Minny is beautiful... Target Pics too bad they can't use the air conditioning to their advantage anymore
September 3, 200916 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Views of the city skyline from the field. What a novel idea. kills me every time i visit Chicago and walk down the concourse at the cell and think, huh, if they would've just turned the field 45 degrees, look what you would see... I mean, people get paid a lot of money to make these decisions. How can they get them so wrong?

September 3, 200916 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Views of the city skyline from the field. What a novel idea. Eh, it would have been hard to get from Bridgeport. You would have been looking at projects almost no matter what. Really they should have built in the south loop before anyone else was down there.
September 3, 200916 yr They wanted home plate to be at the corner of 35th and Shields. Real bad decision among many that went into building that place.
September 3, 200916 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) too bad they can't use the air conditioning to their advantage anymore I'm halfway surprised the turf isn't coming with them.

Yep. That's why it is. Besides, the city is far enough away that you wouldn't see much of it, even if there weren't giant light poles, banners, three scoreboards and a fundamentals area in the way.
September 4, 200916 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Yep. That's why it is. Besides, the city is far enough away that you wouldn't see much of it, even if there weren't giant light poles, banners, three scoreboards and a fundamentals area in the way. Go up to the top level and look out at the skyline from there. It is amazing view. It would have the best view of maybe any sporting event there is on a clear day. You see the entire skyline. Real bad move.
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) KC now up 5-4 in the 7th. Go Royals. make is 7-4 bottom of the 8th.
September 11, 200916 yr Are the Tigers giving Magglio his 20 at bats for the 18 mill option to kick in? I could see that as a polarizing issue if they are droppng games just to not play Maggs. How the hell did he get a contract with an 18 mill option that kicks in if he gets so many at bats?? 18 mill? My god.
September 12, 200916 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) Are the Tigers giving Magglio his 20 at bats for the 18 mill option to kick in? I could see that as a polarizing issue if they are droppng games just to not play Maggs. How the hell did he get a contract with an 18 mill option that kicks in if he gets so many at bats?? 18 mill? My god. That was the contract he signed 5 years ago. That wasn't considered too much money then.
September 12, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) That was the contract he signed 5 years ago. That wasn't considered too much money then. Coming off his injury, I'd still say it was. No one other than the Cubs was interested in him IIRC, and even then they only were willing to offer 2 years. The Tigers at the time were, IIRC, trying to buy their way back to respectability after that season where the only team they won any games against was the White Sox.
September 13, 200916 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Has Magglio gotten the needed at bats? He needs 12 more plate appearances for the option to kick in.
September 13, 200916 yr QUOTE (qwerty @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) He needs 12 more plate appearances for the option to kick in. Which means it is a done deal. If they sat him, it would turn into a grievance and a lawsuit.
September 14, 200916 yr Which means it is a done deal. If they sat him, it would turn into a grievance and a lawsuit. Would it really? Why can't they sit whoever they want to sit? 18 million is a ridiculous sum for Maggs.
September 14, 200916 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) Would it really? Why can't they sit whoever they want to sit? 18 million is a ridiculous sum for Maggs. Because it would be an intentional manipulation of the situation. In theory that sounds good, but in reality, Maggs and Borass would sue.
September 14, 200916 yr I believe you, southsider, but if the clause is he has to reach a certain number of at bats, why couldn't the team go to court and in its defense say, 'Yes, your honor, we decided to not play him so we wouldn't have to pay him 18 million next year. We feel that is our right as an organization, that's why we put that in the contract." I just wonder why it would be a no brainer for the player to win over the team. The stats prove he's not worth 18 mill.
