There is a difference. Grylls films a couple hours, and goes back to a normal life. Stroud stays out there for an entire week, all by himself, having to do his own camera work as well.

I've never heard that. But when does he stay in a hotel? He documents the entire week on his own.

Yeah I know, but from what I understand, there is some creative editing there to leave out parts.

 

I like the idea of both shows, and the one where the guy cameras on his own and stays longer (Survivorman) is better, but I've read articles that make it seem like both are kind of frauds. If one of them isn't and its B.S. rumors, then I'll pick that one.

 

 

Stroud is the real deal...if I am to be stranded in the Boreal Forest in the dead of winter with Stroud I am confident I will make it out somehow....if I am stranded out there with Bear we are seriously f***ed.

Like I said, if Stroud really is out there all the time he says he is, he wins hands-down.

 

Survivorman is on his own. He doesnt have people set him up with a dead goat ahead of time (the Scottish highlands episode) or a camera crew following him around.

Grylls is nothing more than eye candy for the Discovery Channel, the person with a strange name and rugged good looks that will draw in viewers. If someone wants to learn more, and watch a more realistic view of isolation in the wilderness, they'll watch Survivorman.

Yeah, but they at least provide some foundation to understanding survival techniques. Like not panicking, setting up shelter, and trying to collect fresh water. A lot of nuances are missing, sure, but any bit of information is good in my mind.

 

I always thought to myself, if I'm stuck in the wilderness and have the capability of making fire (which I know how to do in various ways), I'm lighting the WHOLE damn forest on fire to draw attention. I'm basically starting my own 100 acre blaze. f*** the wild.. I'll make it known where I am; problem solved. They'll be able to see the smoke from 30+miles away.

 

If I was in the movie "The Edge" it would have been over in several hours. While Anthony Hopkins' character was spouting off his riddles I would have been sitting up a gigantic fire.

Bear Grylls, easily....

 

He just a more interesting host, he puts on a better show. he makes jokes, and most importantly is British. That's a big edge. I don't really care if he's staying in hotels or has a camera crew or even if the information he gives about survival is accurate. If I'm in that situation, im curling up into a ball and crying until I die anyways.

 

Survivorman is sooooo borrrrringgggggg. Just f***ing bland as hell. And also, a bit depressing to watch.

 

Plus there's gonna be the Will Ferrell Man vs. Wild special next month, and I'm all over that.

Here is why its Survivorman.

 

Both of them are hit with the same situation, they are out of water in the desert.

 

1.) Les makes a solar still. Digs a hole, puts a can in the hole, pees around the cup and then puts plastic over it and then pushes the center in. The heat of the desert then evaporates the water, condensation hits, and the water drips in the cup. Les then drinks a nice cup of water.

 

2.) Bear of course has the same situation. He does 2 things. In the first situation, he pees in his canteen and then drinks it. Nothing is refreshing like a warm glass of piss. Sure thats an awesome idea. Then of course not to be outdone. He in a further episode, squeezes water out of some animals crap.

Les and it's not really close.

The one time I watched Man vs. Wild, he just happened to find a "wild" worse that he was going to try to ride. He got pretty close to it; much closer than any wild horse would let a person get. That was all I needed to know how phony it was.

Les goes out there with 50 pounds of gear that isn't there to help his survival, but to entertain us. He carries it himself. He films it himself. If I'm taking survival tips, it's from that man, not the guy who has a camera crew, "sets up" all of his "survival" situations, eats Tuna Fish in between takes and sleeps at the Holiday Inn when the sun goes down.

Yes I always found it odd that if its so hard to survive out there how can a group of camera men follow him around?
