Soxtalk Future Interview: Jared Mitchell

Featured Replies

Our sister site,FutureSox.com, has been working hard to set-up interviews with some of the recent additions to the White Sox organization and Jared Mitchell has been nice enough to agree to an interview with us, which will occur in the next week or two (most likely after the CWS is over). Please share with us any questions you'd like to have answered by one of our "Stars of Tomorrow" and what we all hope is the next Carl Crawford!

Many baseball experts compare you to Carl Crawford. Is he the guy you model your young career after?

Did you have any idea that the Sox were going to draft you?

Who was your favorite team growing up?

Which is the current Sox player that you look most forward to meeting?

What do you think needs fine tuning in your game before reaching the majors?

When do you see yourself reaching the Majors?

Considering the problems the White Sox have had with keeping a regular CF in recent years, do you see yourself staying in center as a professional? What are your biggest flaws defensively and what are you doing to fix them?

What's your impression of Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams?

Your walk total has increased from only 15 in 2008 to 52 this year. Was this an area you thought you needed to focus on? Also, how has your approach changed while at bat?

Do you feel that being able to dedicate yourself 100% to baseball, your overall performance is only going to get better?

From a statistical standpoint, it looks like your strikeout rate might be your biggest flaw at bat. Do you agree with that? And how do you plan on lowering your strikeout rate?

What type of hitter do you view yourself being in the future? There's been a lot of talk of your power potential, but do you think you're going to be a home run threat, or more of a gap-gap doubles and triples threat?

What do you think you need to work on the most?

Do you think your football background will help you in developing as a baseball player?

Are you attached to your swing or are you willing to make changes that could improve your ability at the plate?

What type of player do you see yourself as right now, primarily a speed guy, an obp guy, defensive, or a well rounded player? What type of player do you want to be 5 years from now?

Do you have any superstitions?

Are you available for the Bears at WR in the offseason? /semi-kidding

Do you believe that college better prepared you for the pros than if you had signed out of high school?

Will playing in cold weather with wood bats affect you, seeing as if how you've played your whole life in Louisiana?

He'll be in the South pretty much until he gets to Chicago.

Winston-Salem, Birmingham, Charlotte

Most scouts say you need to re-tool your swing to be successful in the majors, do you agree? If so, how do you plan to accomplish it?

This isn't a question but....

We should try and get more interviews with some of the draftees and even minor leaguers. I've been searching, and most of them have facebooks, so I assume you could maybe set up a few interviews on there with the players.

It's not a bad idea. Justin Cassel was pretty helpful in a writeup I did right after we drafted him, so facebook can be a good source. But, I know I messaged Shelby about an interview right after we drafted him and got no response, so it may not always work. Worth a shot, though, I guess.

Are you going to be better than Jerry Owens?

/knows answer already

Most scouts believe that you're already a pretty good prospect. They also believe now that since you will be focusing 100% on baseball that you have a chance to become an elite prospect. How do you think focusing on just 1 sport now will enhance your game?

It's probably best to wait a little bit cause right after they get drafted, they are probably getting tons of messages of congratulations and such, plus, they have to make all their new living arrangements, etc. It's probably a pretty hectic time for them.

I think I could get an interview with Treybone for Future Sox.

That would be great.

What current or former Major League players do you try to model your game after?

What kind of diet and exercise do you do to maintain your height?

Weight perhaps, Mark?
