A Paul Konerko Love Thread

you know what I mean.

(((((((Paul)))))))

will Paul Konerko eventually be the all time HR leader for the White Sox? It's possible...

he is awesome and consistent. People rag on that contract, but I think it was fine. He and MB will get statutes at some point

fathom.. I swear it was you... did you not claim Paulie would never have 20 hr power again, just a few weeks ago? ;)

He's been great. I thought last year he had earned his stripes so well that he should NEVER have been

booed. I wonder how the clowns who booed him feel now. He had an off year. He was not finished.

Yes, but truth be told, that was only due to the information Hawk was providing (you know, freaking out every time he got jammed thinking his thumb just tore off).

He would have to be re-signed after 2010, and that's far from a lock. And even if he is... man, he still has like 130 more to go.

Either way, I love me some Paulie.

Absolutely, and I'll be there if possible when each gets their statue. They have been immeasurably important to this franchise, not to the level of Frank Thomas but pretty darn close.

I can't hate Paul after the Grand Slam in the WS '05. sry it was awhile ago, but it lasts forever

I always have and always will love Paul Konerko. The man is responsible for the most excitement moment in my life as a sports fan, and he relived it today. I have NEVER bashed Paulie on this board and I never will. He is and will always be my second all time fave WS player (after Frank).

Kong, MB, and potentially Dye once he resigns will be getting their numbers retired here. MB will always be the face of the decade for me, but Kong is a close second.

I love JD, but I dont think hes gotten to the "retire number" status just yet. Considering he might not be along much longer... I kind dont think he will ever get there either. He will however be remembered as one of our best OF ever.

I mentioned a while back that I thought Paulie had somewhat re-invented himself as a hitter. I saw (and I guess still see) him as a great contact hitter with decent power vs. strictly a power hitter. Obviously when a player cranks out three homers, including a grand slam, it's hard to say he's not a power hitter. But Paulie has been nothing short of awesome this year. Batting around .300 and getting key RBIs. He's a workhorse that deserves to be an All Star. Hell, he's our All Star for sure.

I have to agree with you. I don't see four from the '05 team having their numbers retired. Just doesn't happen. Thomas and Buerhle seem like locks. anyone after that becomes iffy, even Kong.

Solid. That's the first word that comes to mind when I think about Konerko. Yeah, he's had some pretty nasty slumps through the years (2003 and most of last year). Other than that, he consistently gets the job done. When you factor in defense (he's been arguably the best defensive 1B in baseball this year), he's arguably having his best all-around season. Not bad for a guy that appeared to be done this time last year. This is why you don't give up on guys with proven track records.

Yeah, I forgot to move him back into my lineup on fantasy...

you're bummed. He accounted for 34 points in my game yesterday

Since 1999, players that either have or will have 300 2Bs, 300 HRs, and 1,000 RBIs by the end of the year. Paulie and JD are in pretty good company.

A. Rodriquez 299 2B, 461 HR, 1298 RBI

M. Ramirez 347 2B, 380 HR, 1232 RBI

C. Delgado 365 2B, 368 HR, 1179 RBI

A. Pujols 362 2B, 350 HR, 1059 RBI

V. Guerrero 353 2B, 346 HR, 1139 RBI

A. Jones 291 2B, 328 HR, 988 RBI

C. Jones 338 2B, 309 HR, 1000 RBI

P. Konerko 293 2B, 307 HR, 985 RBI

L. Berkman 344 2B, 305 HR, 1010 RBI

J. Dye 322 2B, 294 HR, 960 RBI

C. Lee 353 2B, 293 HR, 1048 RBI

T. Helton 455 2B, 289 HR, 1063 RBI

D. Ortiz 340 2B, 288 HR, 955 RBI

(sorted by HRs)

I think we are all missing the obvious reason for Paulie's resurgence - he can relax now that Brandon Allen is no longer breathing down his neck.

Good to know that the thumb's not much of an issue, apparently.

Paul Konerko.... YEEES!..... HELL YEAH!

You honestly couldn't have two nicer, more down to earth guys represent our club for the past 10 years in Buehrle and Konerko. Two of the truly nice guys in sports. It makes it even easier and more enjoyable to be a Sox fan and root for these guys. PAULIE!

Paulie rules. I had offered Michael Bourn for him in my fantasy league and the guy said he would accept it. This morning he countered with Jason Kubel, saying he was gonna hang onto PK. If it gets the Sox wins, I'll take it, but I'd have liked Paulie to crack 3 homers this weekend AFTER I made that deal.

I was at the game and took this video of the slam and put it on youtube. Paully was getting some love!!!! Sorry for shakiness. I'm not used to recording video and going nuts.
