Agreed. I don't recall an abundance of violence.

Haven't seen "Up In The Air," but "The Hurt Locker" and "Inglorious Basterds" were the two best movies I've seen in the past year. Melanie Laurent got snubbed though for an Oscar. Christoph Waltz and her make that movie, plain and simple. "The Hurt Locker" was the truest and most realistic war drama I've ever seen.

Got 'Hurt Locker' in the mail from netflix yesterday going to watch it tonight.

Oscar nominations are out. Here are the 10 up for Best picture:

'Avatar'

'The Blind Side'

'District 9'

'An Education'

'The Hurt Locker'

'Inglourious Basterds'

'Precious'

'A Serious Man'

'Up'

'Up in the Air'

I haven't seen a few of these but Up was by far my favorite movie of the year and I would love to see the academy award an animated film.

Amy Landecker, daughter of world famous Chicago legend DJ, John Records Landecker is one of the stars of this movie. She was on the radio with her dad this morning talking about it. It was pretty cool.

If Michael Oher had been the hero, then all the white Christians that were watching it wouldn't come away feeling good about themselves, which looked like the movie's ultimate goal.

The movie might have caused those church people arrested in Haiti to go out and save the little "brown ones."

They've got this thing called torrents...

But yes, great movie. Well worth the money I spent to see it in the theatre.

Just finished District 9 and after what i thought was a slow start ended pretty good. Not sure about the Best Picture nod but i guess they could have picked worse...lol

I've seen the bolded ones. I have Hurt Locker sitting next to my TV, waiting to be watched.

Up in the Air was just ok. Don't get what the hype was about

District 9 was absolutely horrible. Cheesy, boring. You name it.

The other nominations I could understand. Great pictures.

Avatar was one of the cheesiest movies I've seen recently. If you are going to criticize District 9 for that you have to criticize Avatar for that. Unless you like such amazing dialogue as "You aren't in Kansas anymore", "Why did you save me?" A: "You have a strong heart", or "Then everything changed, I fell in love".

And don't get me started on the ridiculousness of the planet coming to the rescue by sending all the animals to stop the humans.

Titanic won an oscar despite DiCaprio's brilliant "This is not good!"

Well considering the movie is based around mining for a substance that is valuable for an unexplained reason, and that the mining operation is seemingly profitable even though it would take 6 years to transport the unobtanium from Pandora to Earth and then six more years for a ship to return, (six years to transfer new workers, six years for new supplies, etc. I think that reference is the least of the films problems when it comes to stupidity. Well that and floating mountains with freaking waterfalls.

Haha it was at long wait for like two days after I put it on my queue and then it went to being available. If I would have read this earlier you could have come over and watched it with me this afternoon.

George Romero's new zombie movie is called Survival of the Dead. It will be released via video on demand on April 30. Than at the theaters on May 28.

it's a shame that AN EDUCATION hasn't gotten more attention - it's a flawless film w/terrific performances and a good story. No 3D, though. I have to go w/hurt locker - just a good old fashioned war movie that has no political objective. refreshing.

I definitely plan on seeing the other 4 at some point.

Kate Beckinsale returning to the Underworld universe for the 4th movie.

I haven't seen it, but I'm hearing that Alfred Molina got screwed by not getting a nomination for Supporting Actor.

i walked out of the theater thinking for sure he would be, but surprisingly he didn't even get a golden globe nomination, and that's the one that gets the ball rolling.
