September 10, 200916 yr It would be cool if Peavy started on Sunday in Anaheim and if Beckham's back. I should be going to that game.
September 10, 200916 yr Cooper on the SCORE said he would throw another bullpen session over the weekend and go from there.........he also said they are still in it to win it......we could see him sooner
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) Cooper on the SCORE said he would throw another bullpen session over the weekend and go from there.........he also said they are still in it to win it......we could see him sooner If he keeps throwing bullpen sessions and not games we won't see him till next year.
September 10, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) Cooper on the SCORE said he would throw another bullpen session over the weekend and go from there.........he also said they are still in it to win it......we could see him sooner That makes perfect sense. Throw a side session over the weekend and then start him in Torres "spot" in the rotation on Tuesday. And they are definitely still in it to win it. This thing isn't over, not by a long shot.
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) If he keeps throwing bullpen sessions and not games we won't see him till next year. If he keeps throwing bullpen sessions we can start calling him Mark Prior.
September 10, 200916 yr "I can promise you this," Peavy said. "On Feb. 15 or whatever day it is I report, I'll be in as good of shape as anybody and be ready to pitch and expect nothing less than what I've done in years, which is giving my team a chance to win and work 200-plus innings." love it.
September 10, 200916 yr In it to win it or not, I would really like to see Peavy get a start or two before season's end. He needs to go into the off season with a good feeling that he came back from his injury (and then the elbow knock) and pitched. I would have no problem with limiting his pitch count, but he needs to pitch in a Sox uniform this season.
September 10, 200916 yr Even if he is just a 5 or 6 inning pitcher, Peavy would make us a heck of a lot better.
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Even if he is just a 5 or 6 inning pitcher, Peavy would make us a heck of a lot better. Exactly.
September 10, 200916 yr With 6 games left vs Detroit, we are still in it...Odds arent good, but something is better than nothing
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Even if he is just a 5 or 6 inning pitcher, Peavy would make us a heck of a lot better. Our problem hasn't been pitching.
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Our problem hasn't been starting pitching. fixed
September 10, 200916 yr If you can still get hurt during minor league starts and bullpen sessions, why not just start for the major league club. Heck if he goes 1.1 innings, he will have doubled Carlos Torres. As long as he is not throwing 60 mph, he should be starting for us. Or at the very least he could be our opener once or twice a week.(btw an opener is a real position in my head, it is basically a second closer who pitches the first inning of games and sets the tone, and it won't be long until every team has one)
September 10, 200916 yr The math is simple. Peavy>Torres. If he can pitch, let him pitch. If he has arm issues, shut him down.
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Our problem hasn't been pitching. It also doesn't hurt to get a Cy Young caliber pitcher into your rotation.

Are there any teams that use an opener?
September 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) fixed THANK YOU. You are very correct.
September 11, 200916 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Certainly Torres isn't ready...for the majors. Be weary of almost 27 year olds mowing down AAA hitters. He's not a starter, maybe a guy to be used in garbage time. At least he pitched well against the Cubs with the wind blowing in just like Nick Masset.
September 11, 200916 yr I cant wait to see Peavy pitch. Maybe Peavy and Cutler make their Chicago regular season debuts on sunday? That would be friggin sweet!
