Surprisingly no CES posts in here yet.

I've been told by a very reliable person that the Verizon Iphone could be available in stores as soon as Feb 1.

I think I found the pocket camcorder I want. This one was introduced at CES.

I think it'll be January 16th/17th. One of those days is the day Verizon no longer accepts New Every 2 upgrades. The only way to get an upgrade is by waiting 20 months even if you're primary. I believe this is to get everyone who is eligible for an early upgrade(usually if you're through the first 8-12 months of your contract, you're eligible for an upgrade if you're primary as long as you're current). That way they won't have a mass rush of people trying to get an iPhone.

Also, on January 17th, Apple is making it a mandatory workday. No vacations or personal days off. Usually that only happens when they release an iPhone.

Even more proof, iPhone 3GS phones for ATT are now on sale for $50.00

I really hope they can get manufacturers to stick to one UI

Probably nothing, but interesting timing:

What Is This Verizon Event And Why Was I Invited? Could It Be? Dare I Say… iPhone?

Earlier today, BGR published a story that Apple is looking to launch the iPhone on Verizon’s network as soon as February 3. That’s in line with an earlier report about no-vacation windows for Apple retail employees. And now something curious has just appeared in my inbox. An invite to a Verizon event, taking place in New York City on this coming Tuesday, January 11. Could it be?

Well, for one thing, I don’t typically get invites directly from Verizon to anything. At least not that I can recall. They usually send those directly to the MobileCrunch and CrunchGear guys. But this invite appears to very specifically be for me — it’s non-transferable. Would Verizon send me such an invite unless it was specially about Apple?

But that’s the other thing. Would it be Verizon and not Apple running such a high-profile show? And would they do it in New York City instead of near Apple’s home base in Silicon Valley? Certainly someone from Apple would have to be there — and you’d think it would be Steve Jobs. But there’s no mention of Apple at all on the invite.

So what is Verizon inviting me to exactly? Is it some silly USB card or the iPhone 4 on Verizon? I don’t know. But color me intrigued.

Update: Jim Dalrymple of The Loop (which exclusively covers Apple) confirms that he got the same invite. Something is definitely up.

could it be the ipad2 launch announcement?

i would think Apple would want to launch iPad on Verizon at its own iPad 2 press event in Cupertino. "And that's our iPad 2, available on AT&T..... and Verizon"

Google Chrome is dropping support for h.264 in their HTML5 implementation in favor of their horribly named and completely unused WebM video format.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is taking leave of absence from the company because of a medical condition, according to a letter Jobs sent to Apple employees.

"At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company," Jobs says in the letter.

Tim Cook will take control of the company in Jobs' absence.

The letter continues: "I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy."

Not good. Given his medical history, this is not good.

This practice has been going on in the tech industry for decades, nothing new here. Just buy the new screwdriver.

Hex.

Torx.

I have them all, because different computer manufacturers use them for the same reason. A phillips head is what they "should" all be using, but they don't...

People pretending this is some new Apple practice, however, is summarily debunked.

There are reasons to use different shapes sometimes (some of the less common designs are stronger, accessibility, etc.), but in 99% of consumer products, there's no reason.

Problem is only Apple has this one. It's not available for purchase.
