We can email him all we want, but the fact of the matter is that he's a business man too and he's going to go to the situation where he gets the most money now and in the future, and getting money in the future would include him getting a lot of playing time this year. He's accomplished everything he's going to accomplish outside of a few milestones (1500 runs, 2500 hits, a very outside shot at 3000 hits, 500 doubles, 100 triples, a very outside shot at 250 homers, 1000 RBI, 400 steals, 1000 walks).

If the Sox could guarantee him 120+ games, I imagine he'd be interested, but then the money would have to be there. The Sox don't have a ton of money to deal with right now, as they were only willing to give Thome like $2 mill or less, so it's safe to say they don't have the $5 mill it would take to sign Damon.

So, maybe we should all email KW and promise to each spend an extra amount of money on the White Sox this year in order to guarantee the funds necessary to pay Damon? Or we can just have him bill us via paypal and pay up front.

Hah, that would be awesome...

Signing him would easily pay for itself in-terms of television interest, t-shirt and ticket sales... I'll also throw $20 into your pay pal account if you contribute those pants and the free bowl of soup that came with them...

I'll restrain myself from emailing him, because if I did it would be something like

"Hey, Johnny, if you sign with the Sox, I'll bring you Rogaine to games I go to to aid you in becoming Caveman Damon again."

My message...as Ozzie Guillen

"Scott Boras f***ing sucks. Sign with us, I'll let you grow out your hair again. You can then be the baseball messiah for the White Sox.

Viva la Venezuela b****es!"

I dont think it'd matter if Damon wanted to come here and KW had money to pay him. I think Ozzie wants Jones/Kotsay to be his DH outfield help/rotation.

Of course it wouldn't, it's just for the lulz.

Oh, and if he wants to grow his caveman facial hair again, I don't know that he'd sign with the Sox. Jenks has a crazy goatee, but I recall in the early part of 2006 that Reinsdorf required Pierzynski and Crede, and maybe others too, to cut their hair because it was rather unprofessional, and their's wasn't nearly as crazy as Damon's has been in the past.

AJ has mega-blonde hair, it's hard to top that...

Edit: Just remembered, Swisher.

I don't think Johnny Damon is that big of a draw that you could guarantee anything.

I dont think Jim Thome is really a draw either but people seem to think so, there are really very few players who actually sell tickets just by their precense. I actually dont think there is 1 player who actually draws fans just for his namesake in mlb right now besides possibly Ichiro.

Band wagon fans when they are playing .600 ball. He is also an embodiment of Ozzie ball, grinder rules, etc (so long as he is the DH)

I would buy tickets for a team that is very good! I think Johnny Damon would just be another solid piece to the 2010 puzzle- and so far i like it!!

Don't forget Uribe's blonde goatee, too.

As far as superstars who still bring out fans, you have to also count Pujols as someone who draws by his presence alone. Maybe the last couple of years, teams have always drawn more than individual superstars, but you also have/had the phenomenon of Japanese superstars bringing out droves of fans. I was at Dice K's debut in Kansas City and it was crazy, more media than a World Series game. Almost surreal for Kansas City.

But yes, in general, even someone like Hanley Ramirez isn't drawing many fans, by themselves.

Some of the individual pitchers, if you look at their attendance at home versus other starters and correct for weeknight/weekend games, Greinke and Halliday have had a tremendous impact on ticket sales, too.

Oh my, I just looked at his website.

What a freaking obnoxious prick. Makes me hope he gets less money.

I agree, it's wonderful to speculate and I would love to have him, but we are really wasting our time thinking this is a possibility.
