If we have $6M then not only did Kenny lie about not being able to afford Matsui or Johnson, but he way overstated how broke the Sox were. And there's no f***ing way Damon was going to bring in more revenue than Mr. Japanese Baseball Hideki Matsui.

Most likely KW was going to use the money for a midseason acquisition to acquire Damon thats all.

The rumors that Damon is more about the money then winning appears to be correct.

I disagree. We offer a far better chance at winning then Detroit does. Hell, even if they get Damon, we still do.

So this was all much ado about nothing. What a letdown.

 

Until Damon officially signs with Detroit, I'll still hold out a little hope that something could happen... but this pretty much seals the deal.

Whatever. If he signs with Detroit, I hope we drill him in his first AB against us. Ha!

He will say we feel we can win with what we have. We are always looking to improve the ballclub, but the numbers weren't there. This is the same guy who went to battle with Josh Fields and Dewayne Wise as starters last year.

 

 

Back to b****ing about how terrible the DH sitiuation is, i guess. At least, KW made an honest attempt here.

I wanted Damon I thought he would be a nice addition, but this is ridicolous. There was virtually no market for this guy and spring training starts in less than 48 hours and Boras is dragging this thing out doing lord knows what for some reason. The fact that he hasnt signed given 3 interested teams in the last two weeks is ridicolous. I really believe JR now when he says dealing with Boras is a pain because he simply drags things out. How would you like if you got your college acceptance letter two days before the 1st day of class. This is a joke.

KW said there is always another move to make. There was no money for Matsui or Johnson because they are strictly DH's and don't fit into the philosophy the Sox are going with this year. Damon would still have allowed them to rotate players between the DH, OF and 1B. This would not be possible with the other two.

100% correct, I dont think we will ever see another slow, lift and pull, all or nothing slugger filling the DH position for this team for a very long time

Boras had the Sox' $6M offer in his pocket and he was trying to squeeze more out of the Tigers while at the same time hoping the Sox would up their offer. Now with KW publicly declaring his offer is off the table, Damon and the Tigers both know that there is no other offer. If Damon really wants to play for the Sox for $6M, he'll have to call KW and commit himself. If not, he's stuck playing in detroit for whatever their last offer was, which apparently he wasn't too thrilled about in the first place.

I totally agree. Why else would Kenny speak on Friday (and uncharacteristically say so much about the offer) just one day after saying he wouldn't speak to Sunday?

I hope the tigers offer no more than 4 mil. If he has to sign with the tigers for less than 6 mil I'm going to laugh my arse off...

I agree here. There was probably a Friday deadline to accept the deal, and if accepted, he could take a physical and be announced Sunday. Boras said he wanted more time and KW pulled the offer. And now with the offer stated publicly, the Tigers will probably give him 24 hours to accept whatever deal they have on the table before they drop it further.

Not true. The player can initiate talks with the team without representation. The team cannot circumvent the agent because that would be a violation of the CBA. The ARod situation is the prime example.
