I expect that once you get to the Sweet 16 and beyond that the games will be played at a pretty highly level and they are year in and year out. There have been very few really good games after the first round. The first day of the tournament was a ton of fun and since then there hasn't been much to get excited about. Most of the 2nd round games weren't close, the Sweet 16 games were terrible for the most part and 2 of the 4 elite games were fun to watch. Add in a terrible start to the final 4 and this hasn't been a great tourney.

So short sighted. You are telling me there werent any good games past the first round? Your memory isnt serving you well. We have 2 #5 seeds in the final four, those upsets alone make it a great tourney. As for a terrible start? You just had a game come down to the last second with a free throw standing in the way of a win. The refs controlled the game for the most part, but the game was contested and close and you can bet that Butler and MSU fans came away thinking that was a great game.

Close games and upsets are 100% the reason the NCAA tourney is so popular, nobody watches it because there may be pro-caliber players in the game. Some of the best NCAA games of all time featured players that never sniffed an NBA career.

Gotta disagree. Close games are fun, but when it's such low quality basketball it's not all that exciting. Similar to watching a high school basketball game where the players are trying hard, but the score ends up 39-36. This year has been the worst quality basketball I have ever seen. The last second shots are exciting, but the actual games themselves are horrible to watch.

I don't mind if I'm not watching future pro players, but when you are watching games like this where a team shoots 30.6% from the floor and is about to play for the national title, it's pretty bad.

See I guess my problem with this is that a close game doesn't make a game enjoyable for me to watch. This game was absolutely terrible to watch even though it was close. The fact that the last minute might be entertaining doesn't erase the 39 minutes of garbage that I had to watch before that.

Ah, so you only like to watch games played perfectly by both teams involved, THATS whats enjoyable to you? Something ironic in that coming from an Illinois fan.

Clearly the game wasnt the best and was dictated by the refs for the most part, and defense for the other. But I dont think that discounts how good of a tournament this has been. I've gotten used to a letdown in championship games in almost every sport I guess, so I wasnt expecting much.

There was a 10 minute stretch in the 2nd half where Butler outscored MSU 4-3. That is terrible basketball. I don't care if it is closely contested, that is lousy basketball that isn't entertaining to watch at all.

Agreed, offensively it was brutal, but its still better than a blowout IMO.

LOL, I haven't enjoyed watching Illinois play the last few years but I watch them because they are my team. Watching games where there is little to no offensive ability showcased is not enjoyable to watch. If I wanted to watch crappy basketball I would watch the women's tournament.

That was a horrible second half of basketball.

17 points in the final 10 minutes combined. Michigan St missed more layups and had more turnovers in the final 10 minutes than shots made. Butler made only 1 field goal in the final 13 minutes.

I believe the teams went a combined 3-22 shooting to close out the game. Nothing entertaining about this game at all.

I really really dont know who to root for here. Hate Duke, hate Huggins.

I can't ever root for a Huggins team.

what happens if both teams completely foul out?

I hate the state of Michigan so much.

It smells like hot dog water for god sakes.

Nantz sounded pretty disappointed

I'm gonna be sick

(A bit off topic, but stemming from the hot dog water comment) I feel like starting a thread on seeing which is the worst state: Ohio, Michigan, Indiana.

Having been to all three, I would go Indiana.

What's left in Michigan?

Ohio gets the nod barely over Michigan.

What's left in Michigan?

It has the lakes for one, which has some great scenary.

I live in Michigan and work in Indiana.

If you took Detroit out of Michigan, the rest of the state is far nicer than anything that I've seen in Illinois except Chicago itself.

Agreed, if you like nature, Michigan is a great state to live in.
