May 23, 201015 yr If I'm the Lakers, I'm extremely worried about facing the Celtics right now. The Celtics are the one team in the league that has every single ingredient required to match-up with and beat LA. And I don't know what the hell Fisher/Farmer is going to do with Rondo. Kobe's going to have exert quite a bit of energy defensively. And even with that you're opening the door for Ray Allen to have a big series. A hot/healthy Celtics team was the worst, and most unlikely, scenario for the Lakers. Edited May 23, 201015 yr by Jordan4life

Agreed and most importantly with Perkins, Garnett, Wallace and Davis they actually have the size to go up against that Lakers front line.

May 23, 201015 yr QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 22, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) Agreed and most importantly with Perkins, Garnett, Wallace and Davis they actually have the size to go up against that Lakers front line. They're physical and "nasty" as well. That's been the one knock against the Lakers (in particular Gasol) in that they're not a team that likes to mix it up and get physical.
May 23, 201015 yr SVG's one of the top 3 or 5 coaches in the NBA today, no way we fire him. This is all on the players. Namely Rashard Lewis who's been absolutely terrible and we're stuck with his contract. Matt Barnes hasn't given a yelp, and offensively we are just an absolute mess. But you just have to give credit to the Celtics, they are in the Magic players' heads right now and they're playing very efficient basketball, getting great ball movement on offense and playing superb defensively. I think they'll end up beating the Lakers simply because of the Rondo - Fisher matchup.
May 23, 201015 yr QUOTE (T R U @ May 22, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) Im disgusted with Orlando right now, but god the Celtics better beat the Lakers.. 56 points with just over 5 minutes to go. That's boggles the mind. That can't be all Celtics defense. Looks like the Magic just said f*** it.
May 23, 201015 yr I think if you're Otis Smith also, you've got to look at moving VC in the off-season. It just hasn't worked out for both sides, and VC just isn't a player you can rely on in the post-season. If Philly want to move Iggy since they are drafting Turner, I'd offer them VC's expiring deal and see if something happens there.
May 23, 201015 yr Van Gundy just said something that made sense. Vince Carter with Kobe's work ethic, drive and competitive fire would have about 4 MVPs right now. It's a shame that he never came close to maxing out that limitless potential he had in the early 2000's.

It's a shame that he never came close to maxing out that limitless potential he had in the early 2000's. He just never cared about basketball as much as some others. Vince put other stuff in his life before basketball like family, education etc, which made him a very good person, but a guy that never would reach his potential as a player. However, Orlando has much bigger programs than just Vince. Rashard Lewis disappeared, Jameer Nelson had no chance against Rondo, Dwight Howard still has no post moves. Changing one or two players isn't going to make Orlando tough, or a defensive minded team. UNC has a freshmen coming in next year in Harrison Barnes that has the Vince Carter type talent, but the MJ/Kobe work ethic. He's going to be a treat to watch.

But he will indeed be a treat to watch. Yep, here's a quote from Dave Telep about his work ethic. “I think Harrison’s mental game is as sharp as his physical game,” Telep said. “And I think Harrison leaves no option for himself not to be successful. He’s a maniacal worker. … There are a lot of kids who are full of hot air when they tell you how hard they work, and then there’s Harrison Barnes.” Anyways, I think the early favorites for #1 pick next year involve Barnes, Irving, Kanter, Knight, and depending how hard he works John Henson. Alec Burks at Colorado will be thrust to the forefront of national media. He's a fantastic talent and should have a James Anderson type season.

Couldn't agree more with you and Van Gundy on Vince Carter, he's a classic case of what might have been. The career he's managed to have even without caring shows just how much talent he has.
May 24, 201015 yr The officiating in the first half of tonights game has been laughable. League doesn't want two sweeps and a long period of no games apparently.

League doesn't want two sweeps and a long period of no games apparently. True, but Lamar Odom and Channing Frye are locked in a battle tonight of who can play worse. Kobe's on fire, yet Odom has 7 shots in the first half.

May 24, 201015 yr No real surprise; Last season's coach of the year, Mike Brown, has been fired as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Rest assured that LeBron James had some say in this matter, as it became clear that Brown was being outcoached in the playoffs. He's a defensive specialist, but had some issues orchestrating an offense around the skills of LeBron. Who will coach the team next remains anyone's guess, but you can bet that LeBron will have the final say, unless he tells the Cavs he's not coming back regardless. The Cavs had a midnight Sunday deadline to fire Brown, or they would have had to pay him next year's $4.5 million salary. My guess is, Brown ends up back at Indiana eventually.

May 24, 201015 yr Brown is a terrible coach. The problem with Orlando is that they Dwight needs to develop a post game and Matt Barnes should not be counted on as your tough player on the court. They could use a true enforcer like Nocioni and a true leader. Turk was a leader, but he was not an enforcer. And honestly, if they kept Turkoglu this year, they probably would've had a worse year. Even last year, he wasn't good until the 4th quarter in terms of efficiency. This year he was worse. And ask Toronto how much leadership he brought them. The key is always going to be Dwight though. Is he going to turn the corner and turn grimey or is he going to let other people bump him off the low block and/or throw up wild shots that are prayers? Tyson Chandler has a better offensive game.
