% Runs from HR (Running totals)

Featured Replies

Not sure if mods want to move this somewhere, but I wanted to keep a log of what % of our runs come from HR over the season. Hopefully I can update this at least once a week so I won't have to spend 20 minutes looking through boxscores again.....

I understand that the Phillies lead the league last year in percentage of runs scored via the homerun. This would suggest that relying on the homerun isn't such a bad thing as long as you can hit a lot of them.

We've had higher percentages.

My mom was complaining after the game "You can't score all your runs off home runs!"

Me: "Who cares, as long as it's winning you games. They sure aren't manufacturing runs at all right now."

Screw Ozzie-ball.

They wanted to stop relying so much on the Homer. Seems like they forgot one thing though. They have to score runs another way!

I have no problem scoring a lot of runs via the HR.

The problem right now is...every damn one is a solo shot.

That's becaus Ozzie and Kenny (maybe just Oz) don't believe in OBP but speed and grinders instead.

Definitely Kenny and Ozzie.

No, it's because the guys that should be putting up decent OBP...Beckham, Pierre, Quentin...have been garbage.

Would've been 100% today if not for Eric Byrnes.

Not sure what the others will do today but the Sox are either now at the top of the league in HR or very very close.

We are what we are: a home run hitting franchise.

Get some more big boppers, Oz. Earl Weaver loved the home run. We love the home run. Screw blah-zie ball. Give me home runs!!!

Guys, Sox are on pace to hit 343.5 (Alexei's robbed double?) this year.

And we think this is a bad offense.

Tied for 10th in the AL in runs scored and they haven't faced great pitching for the most part. It's been bad.

Its kind of hard to score runs without a HR when most of your lineup isn't hitting their weight in BA. No one gets on base, no hits get stacked together. Hell we got CQ and AJP hitting like .160 a piece, back to back in the heart of the lineup. No wonder we have trouble scoring runs. It seems like for a lot of our hitters WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS. But the answer to so far to why does our offensive suck seems to be more closely related to their all hitting like garbage at the same time instead of they all aren't capable of being good to begin with. So at least thats good.

It's not a bad offense, it's a TERRIBLE offense.

Yeah, if Quentin and AJ continue to hit .150 for the rest of the year... and if Beckham can't hit above .220 on the season... then you're right... it will continue to be a terrible offense.

But if guys simply hit their career averages, then this will be a league average offense.

Nothing special, but not awful either.

It's a disappointing offense.

The problem isn't Ozzie Ball, that's for another debate (whether they should be moving from a home run team to a more balanced lineup given their ballpark)....Look at the batting averages througout the lineup - no style of ball is really going to work with the struggles so many of their hitters have had.

The converse of this is that the two guys carrying us mostly are Jones/Konerko, and history tells us that both will experience significant slumps at some point during the year. And Konerko is clearly not going to stay his pace.

This % is coming down quite a bit. I guess the weather heats up, and we hits less HR? Hmm....
