AGREED!

He has some of the best pure stuff ever. But right now Jimenez is putting up the single greatest season in baseball history (from a pitching perspective, imo).

After watching the last game, I'm still not crazy about his mechanics. It will be interesting to see how his shoulder holds up over the next few years.

If he keeps this up all season, it will be. Pedro Martinez in 2000 is still absolutely incredible though. What makes Jimenez more impressive is that he's doing what he is in Colorado. He's amazing.

Pedro did his thing at the peak of the steroid era. Pedro's '98-2000 > Ubaldo's '10

He put up 12 WAR that year (1999) and had a FIP of 1.39, about .7 runs lower than his ERA.

There's no way in hell Ubaldo puts those numbers up.

What's funny is that Pedro wasn't all that lucky that year (.343 BABIP) and he still owned.

He also posted a WAR of 10 in the year where he posted a 1.74 ERA.

Many people think he was benefitting from taking them as well. that is why he had the great years in the "steriod era."

Who? Yankee fans? I don't recall anything of any substance that's ever linked Pedro to steroids.

There were rumors going around, nothing ever substantiated. Mostly, in house, similar to the Clemens ones at the time.

I heard them, and I lived in Boston.

Mike Stanton with a grand slam in the first inning tonight for his first big league home run.

The reality is...there are zero amazing performances between 1985 and 2005 that aren't going to get people suspicious.

Ubaldo is also in the NL.

And whether we like it or not, there are people who say things about him.

Most that have any baseball IQ at all dont say anything about him.

Considering he testified in Congress (via teleconference) and was the only active player to willingly participate in the Mitchell Report, I'd have to agree that anybody who questions Thomas is an idiot.

I was listening to B&B the other day and they quickly exonerated all pitchers from being on steroids because "steroids only help you with trying to mash the ball." Not true at all. Those substances helped many pitchers in that era not only recover quickly from outings, but slow the breakdown of their shoulders over the tail end of their careers. Those guys were going out every 5th day feeling much fresher than a natural player would.

Yep, HGH/steroids significantly helps your recovery time. It's a lot easier to tell with closers who were able to pitch in the upper 90s every outing as opposed to only reaching their max velocity once a week.

The largest group of abusers were relief pitchers for this exact reason.

They don't slow down the breakdown of tissue though. It will increase the ability to workout but will damage other tissue due to this abnormal increase in strength ratio. McGwires constant tendonitis and plantar fasciitis were prime examples.

Don't listen to everything B&B say. They are entertaining but not usually factual. I've e-mailed Bernstein a few times and if you disagree with his point he'll send a snide remark and ignore you. He always sticks to his high horse performance to put people down. He is fairly knowledable but only listens when it's agrees with his views.

If you see constant soft tissue problems in multiple areas, it does make you wonder about the etiology.

I knew that J. Noah was a steroid user!

Merry Strasmas it's the holiday that comes once every 5 days. My Strasburg player tee was finally delivered to me yesterday.
