How many teams need a 1B or a DH like we do?

The Mets have one in Ike Davis.

The Angels I can understand.

Same goes for the Rangers.

 

But there's also guys like Fielder on the market.

 

I'm sure nobody's looking at Adam LaRoche as option #1.

 

If Kenny makes him the #1 priority, it can definitely be done.

Yeah Q for Dunn doesn't make a great deal of sense.

The Rangers also can't add any real money to their payroll, so unless they can unload a contract or two, they actually have to give up more so that any team dealing a player will eat the rest of the salary. They obviously have a much better system than the Sox, so they could afford to do this more, per se, but it's worth noting. They also have Smoak on the big league club and Chris Davis in the minors, so I think they'd be less apt to make a move for a 1Bman. The Angels also seem pretty content with letting Napoli play 1B with Mathis catching, so that may take them out of the bidding a bit. In fact, I'd say they're a bigger threat to add LaRoche than Dunn, simply because they're still scoring runs even with a generally weak offensive team, so they may not feel that a big addition is necessary.

 

Fun stat of the day...Angels slash line is .259/.323/.410/.733 and are 6th in the majors in runs scored. Sox slash line is .249/.323/.402/.725 and are 20th in the majors in runs scored.

There was an article on FanGraphs the other week about them being extremely clutch.

 

Kinda makes sense.

They're overdue for a stretch in which they are extremely unclutch then.

For some reason, it doesn't always happen with them. They're a really weird outlier.

Ehh they're right around the #6 range in the AL in runs, average, on base, and slugging so far this year. So pretty consistent.

That's kind of what they've done this year. .272/.347/.417/.764 (OBP is tied for 3rd, OPS is 6th in the majors), and they're 11th in runs scored. They should certainly be higher than they are.

LaRoche and David DeJesus would be nice.

I think the government makes two or three holes to fix one, and has been doing that for many years now.

 

Here's the big problem: Dunn is feeling a lot like Dye right now, he does not want to DH full time. Unfortunately that's the only position where he won't hurt you and is our only "open" position. So you have ridiculous demands from the Nationals and then a potentially disgruntled player on top of it. I'm REALLY leaning toward Adam LaRoche right now.

I wouldn't mind Quentin-for-Dunn, and then trading a couple of prospects for DeJesus.

It's just like any negotiation - you start high with something you're not going to get and go from there.

 

The nats aren't getting Q or Beckham from us - nor will they get Moralas from Aheniem - that doesn't mean they'll avoid asking thou. =)

If you're gonna trade either of those two, why do it for Dunn when you could likely build a package around one of them for Fielder or AGon.

From what I hear he is not the best. Konerko is by far the better defender of the 2. Dunn is a DH playing 1B. I don't think he'll be disgruntled at all. If so, it will only be at first. He can do whatever he pleases in the offseason being a free agent and all. For 3 months he will be a DH and will help this team win a lot of games! I garuntee you he will not complain like Dye did when they brought the DH role up to him. This guy is one of the better people baseball and a great clubhouse guy.

Put Dayan at 3rd and Omar at 2nd. I wish Ozzie realized how simple it is.

Justin Smoak is putting up a .278/.389/.478 line in June. He got off to a bad start but I don't see the Rangers needing to acquire a first baseman unless they move him to get someone like Cliff Lee.
