Walking batters is something, ostensibly, that you can control. Once you start putting batters on, to some degree it's up to luck/chance/randomness whether or not they score. A bloop, a groundball that's not hit at anybody- you can't defend against that. That's to say nothing about the possibility of legitimate hard hit balls.
