August 18, 201015 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) He was probably in too long, and you lose some command and some stuff, but the other options were just as ugly. The only real move that could have been made would have required using Putz against Young and then bringing in Sale to face Thome and Valencia (or if you want to get really crazy, Linebrink then to face Valencia).
August 18, 201015 yr QUOTE (11and1 @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:58 PM) Did anybody really believe Thome wasn't going to beat us, and in a devastating manner? I have been expecting and dreading this since the moment he signed with the Twins. The baseball gods were angered, and now they have spoken.... I expected him to strike out. Everybody here should remember when half the board was whining about him striking out every time in the late innings last year.
August 18, 201015 yr QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) I agree with you except this part which is false. Other than Badger, few of the posters were surprised that Thornton was back out there for that inning in the game thread. Not saying I didn't agree with it or did (other than Matt's low velocity I thought they still would have pitched Thome better and BTW we have poorly scouted Jim whom we should know his weaknesses that game) but just throwing that out there. High fastball, Thome doesn't touch. Low fastball, Thome touches. Simple. The Sox know Thome's weaknesses as well as or better than every team. Just because you want to throw a high fastball doesn't mean you will, especially if you may be a bit gassed.
August 18, 201015 yr I'm not even going to blame Ozzie for that final inning, he really doesn't have any good options right now, anything he does could have blown up in his face there. I am still going to blame him for not having a real f***in dh though and no I wont ever get over that bulls***.

High fastball, Thome doesn't touch. Low fastball, Thome touches. Simple. Up and in, he swings a lot at and he cant do anything with it. You go low and away with sweeping s*** in the dirt. We had a guy who has an explosive fastball who ran out of gas. It was a formula for disaster.

August 18, 201015 yr I refuse to watch ESPN for 24 hours now with the highlights, as well as the Favre stuff. Will someone please alert me if ESPN shows naked footage of a sex tape with Minka Kelly in it? Thanks!

I am still going to blame him for not having a real f***in dh though and no I wont ever get over that bulls***. The Sox did get some DH production tonight, however, if they had signed Thome, the Twins wouldn't have him, and maybe this game is a different story. Maybe a lot of things are different. All I know is the Sox better start winning quickly or their nice comeback will be long forgotten with tumbleweeds returning to USCF in September.

Well congrats, you have a nice guy who makes contact all the way to the 2nd baseman in his place.
August 18, 201015 yr Who the hell is going to be the closer next year? Santos? I just don't think Thornton's cut out to be the closer...obviously tonight wasn't really his fault, he's been overpitched all season. I just think it would be better to have a closer with at least two consistent pitches, as good as Matt's fastball can be, it's not unhittable, especially when he gets behind in the count. Hello Liriano and Pavano. Great timing to see those two guys.
August 18, 201015 yr Holy s*** people, why are some people so freaking stubborn? Those that wanted Thome gone were also under the impression that KW would acquire another hitter that could get those at bats as the DH. Everyone and their mother would have wanted Thome back if we knew that Kotsay/Jones would be the alternative.
August 18, 201015 yr I would think by now, even Thome's biggest critics would have to admit not bringing Thome back for $1.5 million was a mistake. He has just as much production in half the ABs as White Sox DHs.

Everyone and their mother would have wanted Thome back if we knew that Kotsay/Jones would be the alternative. KW and Ozzie are smarter than us, they wanted Kotsay/Jones while every other White Sox fan/follower/person who has never watched baseball before thought re-signing Thome would have been the better move, KW and Ozzie were clearly right. This is why we post on message boards and they have jobs with a Major League baseball team.

Hello Liriano and Pavano. Great timing to see those two guys. One inning and he's fine. It will be interesting to see how they piece the bullpen together next season. The Sun Times ran something today implying the Sox bullpen was worn down. That can't be good. They are used less than every other bullpen except two.

There are some posters here that will either never get that through their head, are stubborn, have a very poor memory, or are just mentally challenged. An admin/mod might literally have to pull up like 5+ threads in January/early February or a poster to bump a few old ones to have it sink in.
August 18, 201015 yr I dislike Kotsay as much as anybody but I find it hilarious he continues to get buried on here on a night he goes 3-for-5 with two ribbies and two runs scored. What am I missing here? So every game we lose he gets ripped no matter what he does. I find that friggin HILARIOUS.

Will someone please alert me if ESPN shows naked footage of a sex tape with Minka Kelly in it? Thanks! Hopefully it will be Minka Kelly, Erin Andrews and Eva Green from Casino Royale...that's about the only thing that could make these Twins disasters palatable. I still was 10X more upset when Jenks blew that game two years ago and we lost three in a row and possession of first place. That was a dagger through the heart, and a bit more unexpected. Now I'm acclimated to finding new and amusing ways of losing to Minnesota. You really have to laugh, because if you sit down and really think about it, you'll want to throw darts with mini-nuke warheads at any remaining Ozzie Guillen posters left that haven't already been torn down.

I seem to remember quite a few posters who wanted ANYONE but Jim Thome because he was washed up. He was too old, too slow, and stuck out too much. The general sentiment was literally "anyone but Jim Thome." Well, some got what they wished for.
August 18, 201015 yr You can blame Thome, you can blame Ozzie, you can blame Danks, Kubel for the great catch, Pierre for failing, Kong for failing. So many things to blame. It's a tough loss and a big difference between 4 out and 2 out. But f*** it, we rallied and even took the lead (mind you, the second time in a row we've gone into the bottom of the final inning in Target and not recorded an out). Be 3 back after tomorrow, 2 after Thursday. The motherf***ing bullpen is killing us.

He is a fine pinch hitter or role player as a primary DH he is terrible.
