I said Minnesota's OOC schedule is a bit better on paper, but I still doubt it makes a major difference if NU is better head to head or in conference play in general. Those mid-major games aren't going to be resume-makers and St. Joe's was 11-20 last year and lost their top-2 scorers.

In a way, I agree I guess. They're going to have to be over .500 in conference with that OOC schedule. I don't see them having to be QUITE that good though. If they beat the teams they're supposed to beat, split with Minnesota and won three against the top-5 in conference, that'd put them at 12-6 with likely three wins against the top-25 and another top-50 against Minnesota. That strikes me as more of a 6/7 seed type resume than bubble team. Their problem is that they don't really have a lot of games against 50-100 type teams, it's either very good ones or very bad ones.

IMO they minimum they have to do is get 3 out of 5 against Minnesota, Wisconsin and Purdue and a conference tournament win. Any win in their 5 games against MSU/OSU/Illinois would be gravy. I also doubt one loss OOC or one to the bottom feeders will kill them as long as they still get a couple of decent wins (though they might need an extra against Minnesota or Wisconsin, an extra tournament win or a win against the top-3). 8-10 seeds generally don't have amazing resumes, but they're also generally not right on the bubble either. That's how I see NU with that kind of season.

I guess my main point is that I think they're either going to be out or comfortably in since it will all come down to conference play rather than sitting there in suspense on Selection Sunday as one of the last four in or out.

LOL, look at us dropping Bracketology before most teams have even played a single game. I guess I underestimated how many big wins they can get in conference, that 12-6 scenario would have them looking very strong. I guess its just that their OOC really can hurt them way more than it can help them. They almost need to go 9-1 or 10-0. I think any more losses would stand out, as would any bad losses to the Iowas or Indianas of the Big Ten. It puts that much more pressure on thmn to win all of the games they are favored, not much room for missteps.

Either way, I hope they do finally make it, just as long as none of those wins are against the Illini.

I'd like to think that should be a requirement for any team making the tournament, other than conference tourney winners of course.

Is Lenzelle going to be redshirted because of his wrist or will he be playing this year?

It's not necessarily true for a number of the low end at large teams, especially if they're in a stronger conference and/or have a good OOC schedule (which NU doesn't). For instance, Georgia Tech made it with a 7-9 ACC record last year and so did Maryland the year before that. For a Big Ten example, Michigan and Minnesota both made the field in 08/09 at 9-9 (interestingly, Penn State didn't at 10-8).

Yeah I know it happens. I just dislike teams that can't even finish .500 in their own conferences getting into the tournament. I'd like to see a rule where you have to be at least .500 in your own conference. Nobody wants to see a crummy big ten team in the tournament.

GT only made the tournament last year because they made it to the finals of the ACC tourney and lost by only 4 to Duke. So really they went 10-10. GT, I'm sure fathom would agree, would never had sniffed a NCAA bid if it wasnt for that run.

Realistically they could since they are 12 players deep, but he is supposed to be ready in 3 weeks to play backup PG to Craft.

Well, SIU-Illinois tonight. This should be embarrassing.

For Illinois! Zing.....sniff

Hoiberg wins his coaching debut despite being a few players short and with a nothing roster of talent. Still probably going to be an ugly season for the Cyclones, though. He'll need a few years to get that program back to strength.

And so it was. You cant turn over the ball that much, plus miss all of those layups and bunnies and hope to win. The Illini just enforced their will on those JUCOs and made them look bad. I cant wait until Lowery is gone

Lowery is just an embarrassment.

LOL iowa. Maybe think about not fielding a bball team moving forward.

Redbirds :headbang A good start to a mediocre season.

Interesting to compare how ISU is doing against McDermott so far.

ISU vs. Northern Arizona (Fri.), W 78-64

CU vs. Northern Arizona (Sun.), W 74-70

ISU vs. Alabama State (Sun.), W 74-47

CU vs. Alabama State (Fri.), W 71-57

The Iowa State - Creighton game on the 21st should be chippy. McDermott will probably get cheered, but I'd prefer he gets booed unmercifully for the attempted destruction of Iowa State basketball.

On a side note, thanks NIU for Jake Anderson. He's just a damn ballplayer.

Don't know if ISU will win more than a dozen games this year, but they'll take out someone they shouldn't. Infinitely more enjoyable to watch than last year.

Also, ha, Iowa loses at home to South Dakota State.

It doesn't help when you have an awful team to begin with, to play without your best player. They will be better than last year, but not a good start for the new regime. Lickliter screwed this team up about as much as you can screw them up.

Chris Singleton had a pretty good game today. 22 points, 11 rebounds, 10 steals, 6 blocks, 4 assists.

First ACC triple double since Tim Duncan in 1996.

The refereeing in the IU-Wright St game was hilariously bad. It didn't favor one team or the other, there were just some awful calls all around.

The great Paul Hewitt has his team down 36-16 on the road at the powerhouse that is Kennesaw State. I hate him.
