Just a What if Question...

Featured Replies

I know there was probably 95% (if not more) of the people on this board who would NO WAY in hell trade Beckham. "He's the face of the franchise for the next 10 years, #3 hitter, etc..."

What is your thought now? To me...if the right player is involved and it takes Beckham to get him I really don't think I have a problem with it. Again..."the right player...whoever that may be". I know he's been hurt lately and all...but I'm just not sure he's really going to be all that much better. Obviously he has to be better than this season...but I think the question now might be popping into people's minds a little more.

Are people still in the "no way in hell" camp...

Beckham is talented, but his trade value wasn't helped by the sophomore slump that he had this year.

He'll need to play better next year to gain more value.

Trade Beckham & bring back Daniel Hudson. J/k.

No, I don't want to lose Beckham. We need to trade Quentin and Teahen though.

I would think we'd be selling low right now. After his rookie campaign it was a different story....anyways, his numbers this year are disappointing but given the fact we'd be selling low I don't see him getting dealt nor would I deal him personally because I am still hopeful he's going to turn into the player we all want him to be at 2B for the next 10 yrs...

Yea it would be selling really low because we'd probably have to pay his replacement more than 450,000. Even if Beckham is league average, he plays the perfect position for it not to matter so much. If it were up to me he'd play every day in 2011.

The Kenny Williams "all in" trades need to stop. Trading away any young player who is cheap and under control for anything besides a "young player under control for a while" is not a good way to go. We have enough payroll locked up without trying to add more. Adrian Gonzales and other fantasies that people have on here are not going to happen.

agree with most of you, beckham will be a sell low right now. All of you people who wants to trade him will be crying if he ends up performing to his potential after being traded.

a better what if question is what if Dan Hudson wasn't traded, how good can he be with the white sox, and how good our rotation would look in the future.

I want Gordon Beckham to do so well with the Sox for so long that in the future between Paul Konerko and Ted Lyons on the OF wall is #15

On my team no one is "untradeable" ( is that a word? ), but it would have to be a very sweet deal. Beckham is and will be a very good defensive player. Just keeps getting better with the glove. He hit well the second half and probably will continue to improve. He is cheap for a few more years freeing up money for pitching.

Even with a down year...there's still plenty of reason to believe that he's an insane future bat to have at 2b.

Beckham still has a ton of trade value and to answer the original question, No he needs to stay.

Agreed, you don't move Beckham.

Why trade your talent? You buld around your talent not trade them away

Next year it should be Morel at 3B

Paulie at 1B

Alexei at SS

Beckham at 2B

AJP at C

Viciedo at DH

Rios in CF

CQ in RF

Pierre maybe in LF

Vizquel and Lillibridge are the infield super subs

Unless you are getting a big time middle of the order bat, there is no way Gordo needs to go anywhere.

He has a point, we need those upgrades, at RF/C/DH if we're gonna stick with Morel at 3B.

I guess that's the point to the thread...if it takes Gordo to get that bat...do you do it?!? I just have my reservations about him...

Point 1...Dayan Viciedo at DH is not an upgrade?

Point 2. We've gotten great production from 3b this year with the bat?

Point 3. We've gotten great defense the whole year from 3b?

Basically, Viciedo would need to outproduce the .725ish OPS from Kotsay and Jones, and Morel would have to match the .723 OPS we've gotten from 3b this year and improve upon the .937 fielding percentage we have at 3b for that to be a substantial upgrade (We have the 2nd worst fielding percentage at 3b in the AL thanks to all Teahen's errors).

If we are talking about someone like Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder I'd do it. Otherwise, I hold on to Gordo. Having a cheap star is worth getting talent over and above his ability.

Of course Viciedo is an upgrade over Kotsay/Jones, but as of right now we have Manny as the DH. Manny > Dayan, no questions here. We need a big LH bat there next season, I'm talking Dunn type of bat. Not sure if Dayan can bring enough for this team to win 100 games which might be needed to win the division again. (pending an offseason failure by the twins) I don't think Omar can pull another season like 2010, while I have to admit he was outstanding this year and I hated the thought of him being a fulltime player here - gladly admitting my mistake, thank you Omar. I think Morel will be fine, we bring Omar back as a IF backup and if Morel pulls a Teahen, Omar can save the day.. again.

Last there is the RF situation (I assume Pierre/Rios aren't going anywhere). We either take our chances with Q (possibly platoon?) or find someone more consistent and less of a defensive liability.

a. I look forward to Gordo becoming a star (which he's still far from it)

b. ability (ceiling) the antithesis of all our prospects

I'll take that...touche. He's seemed to be a rarity though...
