January 11, 201412 yr QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) Yesterday I found out that I'm taking over a new project. I'll be working with Home Depot to open a new Distribution Center in Perris, California. It looks pretty far outside of LA. Does anyone (Jason?) know much about this area? Will there be stuff to do? I've never been to Southern California. I imagine I might actually stay in Riverside or somewhere around there. What kind of stuff are you looking to do and will you have a car? If you have a car there'll be plenty of stuff to do.
January 11, 201412 yr QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) So far so good, you? No crawling yet though. It's definitely fun when they can start to grab toys and interact a bit. Same…she loves rolling over and is starting to on occasion push her self backwards. When she gets real frustrated she'll get in crawling position but goes nowhere haha. Definitely agree with you, gets a lot more fun when they start to play with the toys and really respond to your faces, etc.

There isn't anything exciting in Perris, or Riverside for that matter, however, we can always try catching Sox game or something. I live about 50 minutes from there. And you aren't that far (when there isn't traffic) from LA / Orange County.

Yeah, I'll definitely have a car. As for what kind of stuff, well, probably some typical touristy stuff. Sight see. Hit up the beach on a weekend. Catch a baseball game. That kind of stuff I can figure out. But I guess I'm looking for things that someone not from the area would know about. Cool places to eat, etc. Any recommendation of the best beach to go to that's close? Edited January 11, 201412 yr by dasox24

Cool places to eat, etc. Any recommendation of the best beach to go to that's close? Beach on a weekend is great. Honestly they're all about the same distance from you...but if you're going on a weekend, the Santa Monica beach is simply a place you have to go. Maybe grab a meal on the pier, there's plenty of parking, there's tons of shopping on the 3rd street promenade right there if you're into that stuff. DO NOT try to drive there on a weekday. Weekend only. Weekday driving to the west side of L.A. is absolutely suicide. A couple sneakier, less known ones are Point Dume (Tony Stark's house in the movies sits on it), and San Onofre state beach, those are farther away than Santa Monica though. Plenty of touristy stuff can be done in L.A. If you can find someone who knows hollywood to give you a drive through past the sign, griffith park, etc., that's all worth doing maybe for more than a day. Catch a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I know tons of stuff in the Pasadena Area, that's a ways from you but driving distance if you avoid rush hour. Santa Anita Horse track is there if that's your thing. You're also very close to Coachella. Tickets sold out in like 3 hours for the concert this year but can always be found through brokers. You should be close to Joshua Tree if you want a nearby park to hit up. Trust Yelp and various other review sites to find things fairly local to you just to grab quality meals. If you're in the L.A. basin usually things have had the chance to pile up reviews if they're worth doing.

From the sounds of it, I'll have to make Santa Monica happen. Definitely would like to go to Joshua Tree too. I hadn't even thought about Coachella. I actually have some friends going, so that's definitely worth looking into. Thanks, Balta!

If you golf, there are courses galore in the Palm Springs area, which isn't too far from Riverside.

I don't know when I'll start heading there, but I don't think it will be until the Spring. Because Home Depot is HQ'd in Atlanta, I'll do a lot of preliminary work here locally. I do love to ski, though. If I get there sooner, definitely a good idea. I forget that there are mountains so close.

My wife grew up in the area, so I go a couple times a year. Great place to relax with perfect weather 9 months a year. Just don't go in the summer, 100-120 degree weather every freaking day.

January 22, 201412 yr Anyone have any hookups for social work jobs in the West suburbs? My wife is looking for something full time that doesn't have weird hours (we have a 4 month-old at home) She has.... Bachelor's in SW Master's in SW Type 73 certificate (for school social work) Background in foster care, crisis pregnancy, domestic abuse, adoption, juvenile detention
January 24, 201412 yr Just got a rejection email from the Cleveland Indians. Guess they dodged a bullet there. My first order as Video Assistant was to trade Yan Gomes and Jason Kipnis to the White Sox for Shingo Takatsu.
February 12, 201412 yr Professional question. So I stated earlier that I got a pretty dismal raise for having such an excellent review. It turns out, they probably used the money pooled for my division to give another member a promotion raise. She decided she's leaving now and I was thinking of asking for a salary adjustment. I figured the straight forward approach would probably get me laughed at. I am going to get an offer letter with a greater salary and hopefully use that as leverage for salary adjustment. This job is good but the pay is just crap. That's why I would like to stay but the monetary reasons are starting to become glaring each day. I'm not saying this idea is or isn't good but I wanted to get some input from people who have been in this s*** a lot longer than I have.

February 12, 201412 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) Be prepared to walk away, and do NOT bluff. Yeah I would not bluff. It sucks though because my division is 5 people including our division head. One person leaving is pretty detrimental but if I left too, that might be bordering catastrophic. I wonder if I do this right if they will cave.

February 13, 201412 yr Ugh I think I finally have to get a new job and interview. Just too annoyed with my current bosses and having to fix the problems that they create.
February 13, 201412 yr Anybody want to be a partner-sales rep/relationship manager for a software company? Open position in the midwest.
February 13, 201412 yr Author QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) Anybody want to be a partner-sales rep/relationship manager for a software company? Open position in the midwest. This actually sounds right up my alley. But I'm not particularly looking to relocate to the Midwest. Bummer. I am starting the process of looking around, though. I'm about fed up with my company. In a way, it's stressful because I've only been with one company since I graduated. On the other hand, I feel pretty confident about finding something better. Also, I've never had to deal with trying to do one job while interviewing for others. Edited February 13, 201412 yr by dasox24
