White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

29 other teams can say the same thing though, and the Sox have at least 1 guy in AAA who they want filling the 1b/3b role, and another nearly-washed-up AL West castoff there as well.

Wait, who are you talking about?

Check.

Yet he'd still be about 30 percent of the player Frank was in his heyday.

Frank was by far the better overall hitter. PK is a better homerun hitter and much better at defense.

Frank took alot of criticizism for letting borderline high pitches go when they were the perfect ones to drive. He began to argue with the umps more when they stopped giving him alot of those later in his career

Frank was one of the few hitters that you had to stop whatever you were doing and watch his at bat.

Ah yes. I knew that, but I couldn't remember him for the life of me.

Forgot to mention this, but I had a pretty vivid dream last night about the White Sox.

Basically, it was like 2 weeks into the season, and the Sox were pounding the Cubs (I know, the date doesn't match up) like 13-1 or something. Konerko and Dunn were #1 and #2 in HR. I think Dunn had 7, and Paulie had 6, and this was after like 9 or 10 games. I remember Dunn's HR pretty vividly too. He smashed a ball to Left CF and just dropped the bat and trotted immediately. It was awesome.

Yeah, I hope I'm less of a dreamer, and more of a prophet. I woke up so happy and then realized there was snow outside. :(

EDIT: Forgot to mention that we had Jim Thome too. Not sure how or why, but Dunn must have been playing LF?

I find it really hard to be upset with anything the Sox have done this far. It's clear they are all-in this year, and they are conducting themselves that way this offseason. If we don't win this year, it's not because of JR and KW, IMO.

Applying for a CSN Chicago internship. Maybe I'll start to get scoops for you guys if I get it.

Farmio said on Rangers show this morning he still thinks Byrdick is on his way to Chicago, even if it is just a spring invite.

If he doesn't have an offer anywhere else, that'd still make sense...both to have him in Charlotte...and maybe to even break camp with the team, if Thornton is the closer and Sale starts the season as a starter.

It is also worth noting that Byrdak is a southsider. (He went to high school with my older sister.) So, that might be a motivating factor in playing for the Sox.

He still lives in the southwest burbs. Sox offerd him a ML deal earlier this winter that they turned down and are hoping for an MLB deal. With the left handed bats in the division a good amount of LOOGY's is not a bad thing.

"I'm not favor of that," Cooper said, when asked if Sale would be used as a starter until an injured Jake Peavy returned. "It's unfair and too much to ask of a young guy until he has a chance to get himself situated.

"If he starts, he starts and starts all year. To start for a month, I don't like the sound or the feel of that. But I'm speaking for myself only. I haven't talked to [manager] Ozzie [Guillen] or [general manager] Kenny [Williams] on any of this."

I agree w/ Coop. Have Sale start for the first month or whatever, then send him straight to AAA to start until/if a starter gets injured/traded

I think the key is to not have him be a starter and then all of a sudden start closing or something. Once Peavy is back, ease him back into his bullpen role.

Oh please let this happen.

Nothing says "going for it" like sending your 1st or 2nd best reliever down to AAA.

And nothing says "stunting a career" like throwing your 1st RD draft pick into a career in the bullpen before he ever gets a fair shot at starting.

Drafting a reliever in the 1st RD is an awful way to draft.

Why the hell can't we do what the Rangers did with Feliz last year? Give him one full year in the bullpen to the advantage of the entire team, and stretch him out to start next year. Everyone acts like him pitching out of the bullpen for a year is going to f*** his entire career up beyond repair.

IMO the Ranges would regret starting him. His highest innings total in his career was 127 innings. There is no way he is ready for 180-200 innings this year.

Which is why some of us look at Sale and want him to start at least for a time...since his career innings high is already 160+ innings, which he's reached 2 years in a row (with the notable exception of them not being in the major leagues).
